Tactics Ogre Gaiden announced for US, name changed GBA

Tactics Ogre Gaiden gets a US date, new publisher, and a surprising name change.

The latest entry in the popular SRPG series in Japan, Tactics Ogre Gaiden is now being released as Tactics Ogre: The Knights of Lodis, by Atlus, in May. For the record, the original subtitle is actually "The Knight of Lodis", so the minor plurality change and the dropping of Gaiden from the title come as a surprise, especially from a company like Atlus.

Smash Bros. DX Hits a Million GC

Pretty soon, there are going to be a million reasons why this game is Nintendo's best Japanese seller.

Nintendo has just announced that it has shipped one million copies of Super Smash Bros. DX (Melee, for us North Americans) to retailers throughout Japan. Of course, the actual number of units sold is actually lower (around 800,000), but still, it's a rather sigificant milestone for Nintendo.

Scorpion King Lands on GameCube and GBA GC

The Mummy's spinoff is getting its own games, and they're headed to Nintendo's systems.

Here's a quick background check on the Scorpion King: first appeared in 2001's The Mummy Returns. Played by The Rock of WWF fame. People's Elbow, etc. Now he's getting his own movie, with Vince McMahon as executive producer, and Chuck Russell directing. The screenplay was written by Stephen Sommers (director of both Mummy films), Will Osborne, and David Hayter (yes, the guy who voices Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid games).

GameCube Production to Increase in April GC

How does a million GameCubes a month tickle your fancy?

Nintendo is currently producing about 600,000 GameCubes per month out of its Japanese factories. However, it's just been discovered that starting in April, it will up the production to one million GCNs a month for worldwide distribution. According to GC-Inside, Nintendo will be opening up another production facility in China to reach these kinds of numbers.

Japanese Developers Compliment the Cube! GC

The GC is being quite the bait when it comes to luring Japanese Devs.

Sony's PS2 might be the dominant platform in Japan, but developers aren't shunning the Cube. Bloomberg has just updated with a story with some choice quotes from companies and retailers. Here's a few:

``It's best when two or three console makers co-exist,'' said Keiji Tanaka, a managing director at Namco Ltd., the company behind Pac-Man. ``GameCube and (Microsoft's) Xbox can compete against PlayStation 2 and expand the video-game market.'

Samurai Jack Games Confirmed!

The whisperings of Samurai Jack video games are rumor no more; they’re coming & BAM Entertainment is going to make ‘em!

Awhile back, PGC ran a report about Samurai Jack appearing on multiple game consoles, including GameCube. It seems that this report was correct, as BAM Entertainment has announced it has successfully negotiated the rights with Cartoon Network to release games based on Samurai Jack. Although no specific platforms were announced, the first Samurai Jack game will be released this year.

Multi Region Panasonic Q a reality! GC

Lik-Sang now has the Panasonic Q pre-modified to not just play US or JPN games, but all region DVD movies, too!

While we cannot vouch for the reliablity of Lik-Sang (though we hear that they are pretty good), they are now offering Panasonic's Q GameCube/DVD console. But the best part is, it's been modified to play US/JPN games, and DVD movies from any region!

The output is NTSC only, so PAL TV owners need not apply. Also, it's not cheap, it's going to set you back five bills ($500).
