Goku versus Kenshin? Who knows...

Multiple web sites are reporting that according to Japanese manga Shonen Jump, Nintendo is co-developing a Nintendo DS title called Jump Super Stars. The game will feature various characters from the magazine’s many mangas in one action fighting game.

Characters confirmed include Naruto Uzumaki, Goku from Dragon Ball Z, and Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece. Details are still slim, but Nintendo has confirmed that it will make use of the touch screen and dual display and is designed with a “manga style.” Shigeru Miyamoto is even makes a statement in the Japanese promotional article.

We are currently in production with this revolutionary game that allows players to experience distinctive gameplay that's unique to the DS. Please look forward to this new type of entertainment that's being created though the collaboration between Nintendo and Jump."

Further details will be revealed in the October 20th issue of V-Jump, Shonen Jump’s sister video-game magazine in Japan. There is no word on an international release, but with the American Shonen Jump going two years strong and Nintendo behind the product, it is possible.

I really wish that this'll come out in the states but that could require another "hands across america"

PaleMike Gamin, Contributing EditorOctober 05, 2004

As long as the DS is region free, i'm not gonna worry if this doesn't come out here. I always like fun games to import. =P

Isn't V-Jump the mag that started the whole megat0n thing?

Indeed. I really do think this could wind up like Smash Bros. Nintendo knows people want another one, but they also don't seem keen on making *another* game in that series...I figure they wouldn't have much to do besides add more characters. (Heck, does anyone know what HAL or even Mr. Sakurai is up to lately? Hmmm)

Bill AurionOctober 05, 2004

Well it's rumored that HAL is the group co-developing this title...And they are also working on Mother 3 which has completely disappeared off the radar...

DjunknownOctober 05, 2004

Maybe HAL and the boys are saving for SSMB 3 for Revoulution? The other things they could do besides add characters, is put it in 3d (See PoweStone 2 for the Dreamcast) and... dare I say.. *GASP* an Online feature!

Seeing as how Shonen jump takes has quite a few Mangas out here in the States (They take up around 30-35 percent of the "Graphic Novels" sections in my local Border's and Barnes and Noble.), porting it here wouldn't be far-fetched.

My inner Otaku would like to know who'd win a a fight: Young (Son)Goku or Naruto...

Maybe they just can't think of anywhere else to go with it and don't want to just add more characters. SSBM is such a perfect sequel that it's going to be hard for them to top it. Making a similar game would allow them to experiment more without changing SSB's design. It gives them a chance to try some new ideas with the four player genre formula.

If they release a new SSB that doesn't have enough new content people are going to complain. If they release a new SSB that's too different people are going to complain. However if they release something similar that's not SSB they can do whatever they want and then learn from that when/if they make a new SSB.

NEVER give up hope! *determination*

Perfect CellOctober 05, 2004

It says it would use the touch screen and things... doesnt sound like a Smash Clone to me...

though the prospect of an Anime All Stars Melle type game makes me giddy.... It would sell the DS like hot cakes.

Bill AurionOctober 05, 2004

I really hope that this is transferred overseas though many U.S. gamers have never heard of Naruto(One Piece is now here in the U.S., so that isn't a problem with it)...

PLAY AS LUFFY EVERYDAY! ='D

NephilimOctober 05, 2004

The fact is there is a overflow with crappy japanese 3d fighters atm
Hopefully If Nintendo do, do anything more then publish it then It is solid
cause I found that Naruto2 was a overhyped peice of shinned up poo
Anyway Goku is a good reason for a Western release

MarioOctober 05, 2004

Damn, i'd be interested if it didn't involve boring generic anime characters i've never heard of. This will sell HUGE in Japan though.

KnoxxvilleOctober 05, 2004

....got chakra?

PaLaDiNOctober 05, 2004

I'm glad they have Naruto and Luffy in there. I've always wanted to see who would win between a possessed ninja and a stretchy indestructible pirate.

CHENOctober 06, 2004

Seiji yay!

This WILL be awesome.

Masahiro Sakurai quit. That's why they're reluctant to make another Super Smash Bros. game. Masahiro Sakurai contributed to that game so much, that without him... would Super Smash Bros. really be Super Smash Bros. at all?
