Nintendo’s Japanese Mario Tennis page is up, showing off some of the game’s characters, the control system, and in-game footage.

Today Nintendo posted its Mario Tennis GC website for Japan. Along with an explanation of its simple controls (borrowing from the N64 and GBC games) and the different character types, the site has screenshots and a video featurette showing off the game’s different modes and courts.

Interesting court settings displayed include Ricco Harbor (with shifting floors), Delfino Town, DK Jungle, and the Mario Classic Court. Also introducer is the Paint Tennis special game, where Mario hits tennis balls to color in a portrait of his face on a wall. The footage also shows off some of the character’s “special attacks,” such as King Boo summoning an army of smaller Boos and a many characters spinning like crazy to hit their shot.

Mario Tennis comes out October 28th in Japan, with a North American launch less than two weeks later on November 8th.

Did you ever play the original? The music in that wasn't traditional either(because the music isn't done by a Ninty team, but by Motoi Sakuraba's)

Honestly, I played the original in a store, with the volume turned all the way down. I only played for about a half hour, and I could hardly hear the music. In any case, I think I might buy it just for the music. (Well, and the game too... I'm sure that's fun. =P)

An N64 kiosk w/ Mario Tennis was setup at E3 2001 at the AIAS booth. Some dude was on it already so I joined up for a singles match. In his words, I "spanked him." Daisy spanked him GOOD.

ANYWAY, it'd be SOOO AWESOME if Reggie was an unlockable character.

HOLY CRAP yeah! I'd import the game in a heartbeat if he was.

Reggie in Mario Tennis? That doesn't sound right! Motoi Sakuraba's team = Motoi Sakuraba for synth soundtracks, but yeah, Mr. Sakuraba hase done everything Camelot has made for generations (as well as Tri-Ace's Star Ocean series).

To be honest, I wasn't very satisfied with Mario Tennis's soundtrack on either N64 or GBC...the songs fit, but weren't memorable--like underscoring for trivial cut-scenes in a RPG. I'm hoping this Mario Tennis game is more along the lines of Mario Golf GBC's soundtrack. Many of those songs were upbeat enough for Tennis, but much catchier.
