And it only took them three years.

Nintendo Corporation Ltd. is releasing a special edition "Starlight Gold" Gamecube in Japan, exclusively through the Japanese branch of the popular toy store, Toys "R" Us. This special edition Gamecube has a gold tint to it. The unit, which is available now, costs 13,799 yen ($127), the same price as a regular GameCube system, and includes the same accessories, including a golden controller. Here's a picture of the system:

Aussies should be able to remember Michael Klim telling us that he wanted to win gold on his Nintendo 64.

Looks better than a Platinum color cube. But so shiny d*mn you Nintendo with all these different colors.

Infernal MonkeyJuly 20, 2004

Er, I have really old crusty magazines from when the first images of GameCube were shown, and there was a gold one then. And a silver one. And some pink-ish one. It's cool because it's only taken them three years to sell it!

I want a pinku gamecube. (pinku is japanese for pink)

I also want Michael Klim to do more stuff, except he's like retired or dead or something =o, bring back tim ferguson

Infernal MonkeyJuly 21, 2004

Tim Ferguson, Michael Klim and Reggie combo, k thx.

I agree with the comment, this would go great in the west with the next zelda game
esp if they added lil triforces to the control, like the lil art peices on the torchic and emerald gba's

Why did I buy a Cube at launch? I missed out on price cuts, a free game, a free Gameboy Player, the platinum colour, bigger memory cards, and all these cool import colours. I hope next gen Nintendo at the very least has a wide variety of colours available at launch so that us early adopters aren't stuck with a lame colour. Why the hell didn't they have all of those prototype colours available from the get go?

MumeiJuly 21, 2004

I don't think they thought the color mattered to consumers all that much... I would think that the fact that the black GCN outsold the purple GCN by quite a large margin would tell them differently face-icon-small-wink.gif.

All these colours of Gamecubes...they're like iMacs! face-icon-small-tongue.gif

buy sooner = enjoy sooner = regret sooner

buy later = enjoy later = regret later

never buy = never enjoy = always regret

I want to see pleny of colours at realease on the new consoles:

Black
Purple
Red
Blue
Silver
Gold
Green
Pink
Orange
See-Through

I think the GBA had several colors available at launch.

I seem to remember them having white, purple, transparent purple, and some sort of transparent pink that stopped being available shortly after the launch.

I bet the pink GBA didn't sell. Launches need "popular" colors, not "niche" colors (even though I like the niche ones better).

JaleJuly 21, 2004

Pink would sell well in Japan, they love that kina stuff. I personally would like an Orange one.

Next gen I think Nintendo should make parts of the outer case removable. They could just snap off. The case we see would be purely cosmetic with a "real" case to protect the parts underneath. The reason for this? So instead of releasing all these limited edition Cubes they just have to release limited edition panels that you can attach to your Cube. It would allow for a lot of customization and would probably be really popular. So when the new Zelda game comes out the preorder bonus is a Zelda panel that's gold and has the Triforce on it.

Nintendo COULD have done it this gen with those big disc thingies in the lid. Just something like that that's removable and entirely cosmetic would take console colours to a whole new level and would make custom console designs mainstream.

I want one to go with my Golden SP that I got from Toys R Us last christmas!! face-icon-small-smile.gif

KDR_11kJuly 21, 2004

I'd like one with orange and black stripes, looks damn cool.

JaleJuly 22, 2004

I like Ian's idea, I did think about that, but was unsure aobut how it could be impliment it.

I have a better idea for the circle on top. Maybe it should be a little LCD screen and displays something depending on which game you are playing.

Case modding Nintendo consoles! Yay!
