The ex-Nintendo president looks to fund a foundation that likes poetry and playing cards.

The Ogura Hyakunin Isshu Project is a Japanese foundation that specializes in promoting ancient poetry from the country. It just so happens that the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu, as it's called, also is the basis of a card game.

Hiroshi Yamauchi will soon become the president of the foundation, and will provide most of the financial backing for it ($9 million altogether). Things will get started by buliding a museum in Kyoto, and will then include a nationwide tour to raise awareness for the card game, and a future piece of software based on it.

Yamauchi said a reason for wanting to get involved with the foundation was that he felt that Kyoto could use some more tourist attractions, and he hopes that making people aware of the poetry and card game based on it will bring more people to the city.
