Thanks to some quick on the draw internet users, we've got footage of two of Nintendo's hottest games coming at E3! Now in DivX format!

With a giant THANKS to "GodsHand" at the Gaming Age Forums, we have managed to get the Mario Kart: Double Dash and F-Zero GX footage that was shown on CNN Headline News today. GodsHand edited the video to crop out the CNN bar, and it looks great.

Alternatively, we have a smaller 8MB version from IGN Boards user Nuno Cristovao, which also looks very, very good.

Lastly, we now have a DivX 5.05 version which is color-corrected and looks absolutely fabulous, but ONLY includes the Mario Kart: Double Dash footage. Thanks again to "GodsHand" at the GA Forums!

Click the link below to go to our Media Downloader and grab the file! You need to be running Windows Media Series 9 for the .WMV files, and the DivX file requires DivX 5.05.

Mario Kart / F-Zero Footage (22MB Windows Media Series 9)

Mario Kart / F-Zero Footage (8MB Windows Media Series 9)

Mario Kart Footage ONLY (16MB DivX 5.05)

mario kart looks less then spectacular, but hopefully it retains great game play.

NinGurl69 *hugglesMay 08, 2003

I hate WM9.

If it doesn't play in Media Player 6.4, it sucks by default.

GamefreakMay 08, 2003

Well the F-Zero footage is just from the trailer...Luigi in Double Dash shows traces of cel-shading...Probably that shiny coat of gloss that's on his back for some reason..

Berto2KMay 08, 2003

That guy says 2 people per kart, wonder if he realizes nothing has been specified between players/characters. Still Mario Kart looks like frantic fun.

That chic is Erica Hill, she used to be on Tech Live on Tech TV. Too bad she left, she was best looking one at the station.

NinGurl69 *hugglesMay 08, 2003

Zephos bless the person who supplied the DivX version!

zephos...lol.

The downloads don't work anymore? face-icon-small-sad.gif

Grey NinjaMay 08, 2003

Cool new download app. face-icon-small-smile.gif Thanks for the videos, and thanks for the DivX version. It's greatly appreciated. face-icon-small-smile.gif

About the game, I think that it looks far more stunning than I had anticipated. It's silky smooth, and looks fabulous.

Berto2KMay 08, 2003

Hehe, I just finished going through the 24 page thread about this on IGNCube board. One guy posted links to this story here and people say the download speed bottomed out. I gonna try and capture a nice large version with my AIW card.

Edit: Oh ya I got it, 720x480. A mere 87MB in mpg2 format. The full 2 minute piece. Now if I just had a place to store that on and to share for people or a way to compress it.

GamefreakMay 09, 2003

I call it...Winzip...Do the highest compression, it's good face-icon-small-wink.gif

Berto2KMay 09, 2003

I thought of that too, it only dropped it by 2 MB with max compression. Same with WinRar. Ah well, I will put it on Kazaa.

Edit: It is up now, 87MB worth.

ToolvanaMay 09, 2003

I love all the little animation going on in the background, like the trees, clouds and boulders rolling down the mountain.

nolimit19May 09, 2003

yea that chick is super hot

Ian SaneMay 09, 2003

I remember when Double Dash was first revealed a lot of us freaked out about the graphics and a lot of defenders said we should wait until we see it in motion. Well now we've seen it in motion and I can safely say I'm disappointed. Why the hell can't EAD make a Cube game with decent graphics? Aside from Zelda all of their Cube games' graphics look completely half-assed. It's like they strive for what's considered acceptable and nothing more. Meanwhile all of Nintendo's other developers like Retro, Hal, and SK have gone the extra mile with an attention to detail with their graphics that really adds to the game and not at the expense of gameplay either.

I mean I don't expect Mario Kart to have Star Fox Adventures graphics but it should at least look polished. Much like Super Mario Sunshine there is a real lack of detail and everything looks very bland. Yeah gameplay is what matters but there's no excuse for a lazy presentation.

JoshumsMay 09, 2003

Hey the video files don't seem to be working pls fix them k asl.

PumamanMay 09, 2003

Am the only one that thinks the graphics in Mario Kart look fine?

No you aren't. I don't think they are the horrible eyesore that most people are whining about either. I actually stated above that I thought the game looked really good. People who are complaining about the graphics should just chill, and play the game.

Ian SaneMay 09, 2003

I'm not saying that the game looks like crap. I'm just saying that it could look a lot better and considering it's a first party game it SHOULD look a lot better. They look good enough but that's the problem. First party games should look better than "good enough".

EggyToastMay 09, 2003

It seems that Nintendo's thing this generation is to push graphics in different ways, instead of just making them more "realistic." They care more about having a bajillion things going on at the same time without dropping the framerate instead of making sure that 1 single character's overalls have visible stitching.

And it seems that the planet gamecube server is completely crapping out because of these files. Can we get a mirror site or the server fixed?

GamefreakMay 09, 2003

But in Smash bros. Melee they had a bajillion things happen at the same time, with FOUR players, without the framerate ever dropping, AND you could see the stitching in the overalls face-icon-small-tongue.gif

well this isnt mario golf or mario party....this is mario freaking kart....and although the game doesnt look bad....it really isnt inmpressive. and a game of mario karts calibur should be all that it can be. there are many people that are looking forward to this title that may be turned off by its not so good looking graphics. nintendo needs to step it up in that department.

YEA! Just like all of those people turned off by Grand Theft Auto's subpar graphics! I'm sure Rockstars kicking themselves now. "PHUCK! We sold 8 kabajillion copies BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE PEOPLE NOLIMIT CLAIM WON'T BUY OUR GAME CAUSE OF t3H GRAPH1CKZ?!!!!!!!!!!one"

Here's a clue: About 80 percent of the videogaming market has no comprehension of what makes good graphics. For instance, I watched the Double Dash video and I exclaimed "Pants, meet poop". Not because there were bumper mappers or volumetric gasious intestinal content. It looked stylized. It looked like a 3D Super MarioKart. Hot damn, the day I ask for something more sexy then that is the day I become a forum blow-hard, constantly refreshing my explorer window in an attempt to scatter my waves of elite stupidity amongst the rest of the forum-going community. Ring a bell?

And I'm sure you're aware of how average Mariokart 64's graphics were when it came out compared to some PC titles. Or maybe you weren't a videogame know-it-all at the time, and actually enjoyed games more then you bitched about them. Do us all a favor and revert back to that state, will you?

BlkPaladinMay 10, 2003

You know Nintendo has really never been about Graphics, and I doubt they even will be. Nintendo is a company that watches the bottom line and the graphics in a game are one of the most time comsuming in the development process.

Also to note some of the effects etc may change for the US release. For Mario Sunshine the water had a little metalic shine to it when it was released in Japan. (At least the Demo for the US which came off the the Japanese one did.) When the game came to the US that metalic sheen was gone and the water reflected more like water.

AnyoneEBMay 10, 2003

Cool! Ethernet is baseband, not broadband. (CNN said otherwise face-icon-small-smile.gif)

nolimit19May 10, 2003

that is very true. i think most people decide whether graphics are good, depending on what system its on. stupid kid that will remain unnamed was telling me...madden on gc looks like crap.....and i was like.....um no it doesnt. and the video of mario kart dd wasnt the best quality ever so hopefully its much cleaner when u are actually playing it.

WesDawgMay 10, 2003

I think the game looked awesome. Tons going on. It looks pretty fast too, and then when Luigig turns and gets pissed at whoevers next to 'em and shoves 'em. That's awesome. The game will force me to finaly make some Nintendo-playing friends.

GamefreakMay 10, 2003

As for Nintendo not ever being about graphics...look at Ocarina of Time, and then look at all of the other games that were released in 1998, on any platform. If they could make Ocarina of Time one of the best looking games ever made up to that time period, both artistically and technically, AND on a console that's hard to program for, then they should have no problem with the Gamecube. I don't know what's wrong, but this whole thing about "EAD not making impressive graphics" has only popped up among discussions after the release of the GCN. No one had a problem with them during the NES, SNES, or N64 eras. Just a thought.

JollusMay 10, 2003

Nintendo really needs to just stop making game for about a year. At this rate I am never going to be able to save up enough money to move into my own place.

GamefreakMay 10, 2003

Maybe you need to set your priorities straight. face-icon-small-wink.gif

hylian spongeMay 11, 2003

they are not working for me even though i have windows 9 media player and divx5.0.5
the media player one works but it stops and says something that an error has occured

Ian SaneMay 12, 2003

"I don't know what's wrong, but this whole thing about 'EAD not making impressive graphics' has only popped up among discussions after the release of the GCN. No one had a problem with them during the NES, SNES, or N64 eras."

I think that's because with the other consoles EAD actually made games that looked good compared to other titles released around the same time. Super Mario Bros 3 was so ahead graphically of other NES titles it practically looked like an early SNES title. Super Mario Worlds, F-Zero, and Pilotwings were absolutely amazing when they were released. EAD's N64 titles, while not as pretty as Rare's, were always some of the best looking titles on the system. However with the Gamecube, compared to other titles, EAD's stuff generally looks really bland. I'm not asking for super realism but there should at least be some better details. Super Smash Bros Melee, which was practically a launch title, shouldn't look better than Cube titles being released today.

ThePermMay 12, 2003

huh? Mario Kart looks awesome...its fast and colorful...all i could ever want out of mario kart. Looks great to me.

GamefreakMay 12, 2003

On the contrary, apart form the character models and animation, Melee's graphics don't even come close to competing with Wind Waker's...
I still think Wind Waker could've made it at 60 fps. Metroid did it, and Star Fox pretty much did it most of the time...even with the fur shaded grass and fur...and mucho-polygoned character models.
