And of course ... what does the outsourcing of production mean to consumers?

Discuss it in Talkback!

Reports are coming in this morning that Nintendo may have settled on a third-party manufacturer for its GameCube hardware. First International Computer (FIC) in Taiwan has apparently already shipped some of the GameCube consoles, and will ramp up production in the fourth quarter.

Previous reports were that Q-Run Technology would be utilized to produce over 300,000 consoles at a cost of $100 each. It's possible that this deal is still in place, with FIC making more units to supplement Q-Run.

We'll have more details as they are revealed.
