Sega’s executives are looking to adopt a few publishers and make them a part of their family.

Discuss it in Talkback!

In a very bold move, Sega has announced its plans to aggressively pursue the acquisition of other third party publishers in an attempt to become the second largest video game publisher in the United States this year and the largest by fiscal 2004. Sega of America Vice President Charles Bellfield informed Reuters that Sega is already talking with many publishers and that only its biggest competitor, Electronic Arts, is excluded from consideration. Sega is especially interested in buying out smaller publishers for their developments teams and franchises, but companies such as Infogrames and THQ, who currently publish Sega-brand titles in international regions, are certainly not out of the question.

Sega’s dealings have been going on for some time: Sega was to announce the acquirement of an undisclosed publisher at E3 2002 until the deal fell through, and it is expected that Sega will announce successful annexations in the months to come.
