PGC attends Camp EA!

by Max Lake - July 25, 2001, 7:12 pm EDT

It’s not your usual summer camp either! As Ed Shih writes impressions on Madden & SSX Tricky, here’s some info on the event held today by EA, where he got to play them!

Today was the day of Camp EA 2001, where Electronic Arts showed off several of its games in development to the press, including two playable GameCube entries, SSX Tricky and Madden 2002. PGC was on-hand for the event, dispatching Senior Editor Ed Shih to do what every staffer of PGC has been dreaming of since E3: play more GameCube. Although Madden was shown on all 3 systems and was playable at E3, SSX Tricky was just shown in video teaser form. Today, Ed got to play both and you can expect impressions from him on both games, with a few new details too. Meanwhile, we posted a FIFA 2002 preview based on info Ed picked up.

Aside FIFA 2002 & the two playable Cube titles, EA still isn't saying much on its Gamecube support and any additional planned titles... EA was much more vocal about X-Box support today, with the exclusive title Cel Damage, Simpsons Road Rage (which is VERY much Crazy Taxi + Simpsons), Nascar, NHL, NBA… There are certainly other EA titles planned for GameCube, including NBA Street and others; EA just wasn’t mentioning them today. It does seem likely though that SSX Tricky & Madden will be the only Cube games from EA in 2001.

Madden is expected for GameCube launch, SSX Tricky will appear sometime in November or December.

A big thanks goes to Electronic Arts for holding its Camp EA today & inviting Planet GameCube! Ed Shih is writing hard as I post this, so stay tuned for his impressions! Also, check out added screens for both Madden & Tricky.
