SegaNet is shutting it's doors as an ISP. But don't worry, they will continue to offer internet gaming.

I received an email from SegaNet today, as I am a SegaNet user. SegaNet will soon no longer be an ISP. They are shutting down their dial-up access. However, they will still offer internet gaming. Their network will stay in tact and games will still be playable over SegaNet.

What does this mean exactly? Well, it most likely means that Sega is making deals with other companies to enable them to use Sega Net servers for online gaming. Originally it was speculated that Nintendo was going to use SegaNet as an ISP for their online gaming platform. Now, Nintendo will either not have a specific ISP for the GameCube, or they will have their own ISP like Sega did with the Dreamcast. These developments should be interesting for sure!
