E3 Video Update

by Max Lake - July 16, 2001, 3:44 am EDT

Did the videos ship? No. Find out why and all the gruesome details. Still, it won’t be long now –so please don’t hate us too much! ;)

OK, so we said our E3 video would ship on the 15th. Obviously, that didn’t happen, because the 15th was a Sunday. It is now the 16th and the post office opens in a few hours. Yet, the videos aren’t ready quite ready and I’ve been fumbling with what to tell you all.

All I can say is that work is continuing fast and furious, and thankfully, the editing is nearing completion. Really. There has also been a lot of necessary “behind the scenes” work for this project too; for one thing, Billy has had to secure new business licenses for this endeavor… Another small “problem” is that the PGC Video is comprised of lots of footage. It may very well end up being 3 tapes for the videos (4-6 hours perhaps)… It’s that much. Therefore, we’re making sure to optimize costs & quality and it’s taken a bit of time to compile.

I didn’t really think we should nail down a ship date, but to be fair, you all deserved one. After some frantic figuring, I guesstimated the 15th. Shortly thereafter, I was contacted by Justin Wood, who informed me that Gaming Edge would need the tapes/CDs at least a week to prep them for shipping and get the orders straightened out. Still, Rob Avery seemed positive about making the 15th date no problem, if not beat it. To be fair to Rob, I don’t think he knew how much footage we had total at the time.

Rob has been working like crazy on the video and I am going to be working with him closely this week to see everything thru. If things go according to plan (cross your fingers), we’ll be done A LOT sooner than later. Then, the next step is duplication. As everything is finalized and is ready to go, we will begin taking full orders for the video and working with GamingEdge to start preparing for the videos.

The FULL orders will finally allow other methods of payment. Although we don’t want to discourage anyone from ordering a video, we did not want to take anyone’s money until the videos were just about ready to ship… For full orders, we will take check, money orders, pay pal… Details to follow soon, as much of this is still being worked out.

Another important thing to clarify: If you placed a pre-order, your credit card has not been charged and will not be charged until the video is shipped. Anyone who pre-ordered can cancel anytime. Pre-ordering just means you're going to get your video first & if you pre-ordered early, you MIGHT get some free swag. (We grabbed whatever we could - but there wasn't much). We mainly did pre-orders to get an idea of how many we should make.

As soon as we begin full orders, we will know the number of tapes/CDs to order. We will ship packages out in the order they are received.

Sorry everything has been taking so long but I promise, the E3 video will have tons of stuff you won't find anywhere else and is going to be a VERY amazing documentary of PGC witnessing Nintendo's historic moment & all the software we're going to be playing this fall.

I'm starting to feel like Nintendo with this, delaying it so long and all, but the final product will be off the hook. Remember though, just like Nintendo, I am working to ensure quality (trying to anyway). Thanks for your patience (especially since all orders are supporting PGC) and I hope you do not think any less of PGC for our inexperience in timely film production!
