No Territorial Lockout for GameCube?

by Max Lake - May 22, 2001, 6:16 pm EDT

We’re moving into HEAVY rumor territory here! Buuuuuut...

We recently got a question from a reader who asked whether or not the GameCube would have a territorial lockout—especially as the GBA does not have a lockout and will interact with the GameCube. Well, we have been skeptical (albeit hopeful) that GameCube wouldn’t have a territorial lockout but we’ve heard one interesting bit that’s worth sharing…

During E3, we heard from a source that spoke to Ken Lobb on the showfloor and asked him about whether or not the GameCube would have a territorial lockout. Apparently, Mr. Lobb responded that Nintendo is aware of many people importing Nintendo systems (such as GBA) and is very much keeping this in mind. Somewhat vague but also a glimmer of hope for those of us all too eager to import a Cube come September.

We’re not sure what to think just yet but will see what we can turn up.

Thanks to Art!
