43 million copies can't be wrong.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is going to double in size over the next two years with DLC.

A "Booster Course Pass" will be available for preload today, and will feature six packs of eight new courses releasing through 2022-23. The first pack will be available March 23, and will include tracks from both classic console/handheld Mario Karts and Mario Kart Tour.

The pass will be $24.99 US, and subscribers to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack will be able to download it at no cost.

Well it looks like it's finally time for me to buy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.  Owned the game on Wii U but never felt the need to get the Switch version since there was no new course.  Well it looks like Nintendo finally fixed.

Oh god, just thinking about the new music remixes for these stages in the Mario Kart 8 style is going to make me drool all over.

AdrockFebruary 09, 2022

First thought was “maybe you dinguses should have included these when you rereleased the game to fix Battle Mode and the lack of double items” then I realized I’m buying the DLC so I’m partially responsible for Nintendo not doing this in 2017.

The tracks look a little bland graphically.

Can't get a damn reply in this thread to stick. 504 Gateway errors.

Happy with $25 for nearly 50 new tracks. Not paying Nintendo to hold them hostage via the online service, though.

Funny you should say that I made a post after that 123 post and basically gave me a 504 error but basically I am not really a fan of season passes for content.  Like tracks that should be already in there.  Maybe different characters is more reasonable if it is for a fighting game but there are certain things that mix better in different genres than others in terms of season passes and all the different models companies have these days.

Having 48 courses of remakes and ports from the mobage is a heck of a thing. Also, interesting business strategy to have this included in the Online Expansion Pass. I do wonder how consistent that will be from Nintendo for expansion DLC for Nintendo games. Smash Bros. Ultimate's time has passed, but Splatoon 3, Nintendo Switch Sports, the new Mario Strikers....

nickmitchFebruary 10, 2022

I was all set to just buy the expansion pass outright. I have been wondering when Nintendo would finally do this. I wish they would've considered original courses, but with tracks coming from the mobile game that I barely touched, those tracks will feel new to me.

But with this included in the expanded Switch online, I think that's finally enough to push me into upgrading. I didn't think the selection of titles for the added consoles justified moving on it at launch.

This is a blind buy for me. With 48 tracks it seems like a good deal. I am most excited for some Super Mario Kart (SNES) levels.

This was the big bummer of the Direct for me. It's now been over seven years since the last new mainline Mario Kart game, the longest period ever without one, and this makes it look like it'll be several more years at least with nothing. Plus it's all just old tracks anyway, nothing new.

Poor sheep, ha ha. Let's be real though, Tour is barely even a racing game. Mario Kart Live is closer to a "real" Mario Kart game, probably. I actually have Live, I should find some way of playing it. I wonder if the kart could drive on some cardboard...

Nice but would have been better if they included remastered battle stages and Bowsette/Boolina as new characters or super-crown as a new item too

Nice breakdown of confirmed, datamined, and speculated courses. Basically the courses shown appear to be direct ports of versions of the same tracks from Mario Kart Tour. So it seems likely the rest will be other versions of current and datamined courses from that game.

Question... If I have multiple accounts on my switch, and I purchase the DLC with the primary account... do ALL the other accounts get to access the extra tracks too?

Yeah but if they are primary accounts on other switches, it won't carry over to the other systems. Some people have been screwed by having their save data locked out by playing games with dlc (botw) on another switch (family's) and moving back to their own.

Happened to my sister. When she lived with us we shared a Switch and she played a ton of BotW. We got her a Switch and BotW + Animal Crossing for her Birthday and she moved out that same month and ended up unable to play until she talked to me and I showed her the issue and she had to buy the DLC

OK good information, thank you!  So it's sort of tied to an account AND a system.  So if you pay into the expanded online you get it for all switches if they have your primary account, but other accounts on the SAME system would not (unless you get the expanded family plan).

So basically I can buy it for $25 for a single Nintendo switch.

No, each Nintendo Account has one console set as a primary console the first time they log into the eshop. Any other nintendo account on that primary console can access that Account's downloads/DLC/nintendo online.

Well perhaps downloads and DLC, but Nintendo online is definitely restricted to specific accounts on the switch.  Any other Nintendo account can NOT access Nintendo online even if the primary console account has an active subscription.  From what I can tell, Nintendo online access is tied specifically to an account with no regards to this primary console concept.

Oh you're right. I was thinking of downloading Famicom/Super Famicom games from another Japanese account and playing it with a NSO account.
