Xbox and GameCube head to head?

Nintendo's GameCube and Microsoft's Xbox aren't just launching close to each other, they are launching 3 days apart, but at what price?

The day we're all waiting for: November 5, 2001. This is the day that Nintendo will unleash the power of GameCube upon unsuspecting throngs of American consumers. However, they won't be alone. Just three days later, on November 8th Microsoft's Xbox will launch at a price of $300. Nintendo's own Peter Main has assured us that information on the GameCube's price will be disclosed by May 24 (probably on May 24). We're expecting a price of about $200. This begs the question, how will a $300 dollar console compete with one that is less expensive yet just as visually stunning? Do you think Microsoft's 500 million dollar (over 18 months) marketing budget is a lot? Peter Main laughed at that figure today as being a bit low for launching a new console. In the end, the games sell the system, and Nintendo plans on having 7 first and second party titles out by Christmas in America. Nintendo's name has always been associated with greatness, they certainly aren't about to let that change. Sounds like we're going to be in for one hell of a fight this November.
