Controller changes CONFIRMED!

by Billy Berghammer - May 14, 2001, 3:00 pm EDT

Another stroll through E3 has revealed that some talked about changes have happened to the GameCube controller!

I had to double check a few things at E3 with our media badges so I took a walk over there and checked out some of the construction in progress.

Since the huge platforms and structures were more in place now, it was almost impossible to see anything more in the Nintendo area. But I did check out more of what was on those huge white banners. A more clear look at the controller and the talked about changes to it.

As far as the button layout on the controller, the B button is now a red circle, instead of the kidney shape Maybe that was to avoid confusion, and to make the B button stand out more than the X and Y buttons.

Also, the start button is now grey, and looks to be a little higher.

As far as the lengthening of the controller, I really don't see that it's that much longer. It's at least not as long as the controller mock up that had the extremely long arms. If anything's changed, it's minimal.

Our good friends from Dutch Gaming (because we are down with the Dutch) have posted a blown up picture of the GameCube controller that we posted before . This shows where the original

mock up's arm length, vs, the new length. If anything, the arms

are only a centimeter or two longer.

That's about all I saw. Outside of the giant structures, video screens, and signs being erected. One thing that is cool, is Nintendo's area looks to be all new. It's more of a boxed in area. Wouldn't want to share that beauty and excellence with Sony now. :)
