The Mainstream Begins To Shift...

While things may have been ugly for Nintendo fans for a little while there it appears that the wind may be changing...

A little more than a month ago it was getting a little bit nervous if you were a Nintendo fan. With the exception of Steven Kent it seemed like all the mainstream press had to say was uniformly negative and uninformed.

Ironically (or maybe not) the day after the frenzied night of GameCube insanity as the Rogue Leader pics from Next Generation hit we now have USA Today piping up a small article on the next generation with some good things to say about GameCube:

Nintendo is drawing particularly good buzz. Thanks to the GameCube's graphics-crunching ability, LucasArts developers working on the game Rogue Squadron II were able to digitally insert actual models that Industrial Light & Magic created for the theatrical re-release of Star Wars.

In the past, developers had to scale back the ILM models for games; this is the first time that X-wings, AT-AT walkers and other crafts could be re-created to scale and detail. "Believe it or not, it actually looks like the original movie," says LucasArts president Simon Jeffery.

With the big unveiling a mere week away this is the time for Nintendo to be building just a little bit of momentum so that they're sure people will be watching what they have to show. Hopefully we'll see more Nintendo love soon and above all, hopefully Nintendo comes through in spades next Wednesday.

A big thanks for eagle-eyed Forum member NearlyHeadlessN for bringing this to our attention
