The PS2 is a good value... as a DVD player only!

Lately, NCL's President, Hirohsi Yamauchi has mouthed off about Square, seemingly attempting to encourage stronger support or none at all. Usually, we can expect some sort of strong statement from Yamauchi and when he's not postponing his retirement, he's usually slamming the competition. Mips36 emailed me with a head's up, putting up a quote he picked up from a Business World interview with Yamauchi. When asked about PS2 and his thoughts, Yamauchi had the following to say:

Yamauchi: Because the PS2 is the DVD player, you think there is a value, as a DVD player. So, there is a problem as a game machine. The PS2 games are very difficult to make, don't you think? It is important to design hardware to enable game companies to easily create games. Creating new hardware is difficult process, also the game companies game development cost increases, if the hardware is difficult to work with it becomes a negative situation that affects the game developer enormously!

Ah, Hiroshi Yamauchi true to form. Then again, his statements aren't complete insanity. Yamauchi almost certainly refers to the fact that the Nintendo GameCube will not have these problems.
