In a speech at the GKM Toy and Interactive Entertainment Conference yesterday, Nintendo's Peter Main spoke regarding "Dolphin," Nintendo's next-generation console.

Here, the transcript of his Dolphin-related comments:

"On the console front, I can assure you that we're hard at work creating a Dolphin machine that will meet or exceed the performance of Playstation 2. But at the same time, we're very comfortable holding our cards close to the vest...Seeing what Sega's delivering...And listening to what Sony is promising."

"...We have taken the appropriate steps to boost early game development for Dolphin. Our internal software resources have grown to incorporate the work of our teams in Kyoto...Rare in England...Retro Studios and Left Field in the U.S...And the work of our new Nintendo Software Development Group at home in Redmond." (When contacted today, NOA confirmed that all of the above-mentioned developers have Dolphin projects in the works)

"...And just as importantly, we've created better software development tools and a DVD medium to eliminate the inventory and cost implications associated with silicon cartridges. We have teamed with Matsushita to produce both a streamlined, games-only Dolphin console which will launch around the world and Matsushita is also employing that same Dolphin technology inside a more diverse home entertainment device to be marketed initially in Japan."

"In terms of pricing...In terms of partners...In terms of market positioning and superior entertainment product...We feel we will offer the world's gamers an unbeatable combination with Dolphin."

"In the near future, we'll also be announcing some intriguing ways for connecting Game Boy Advance to the Dolphin console. ...Finally, I guess, the big question - online game play. Will Dolphin have connectivity? Yes...But I'm not at liberty to provide details yet. And as I've mentioned, Game Boy Advance will also provide that function."
