Developer Wide Games announces that their intriguing new racer is coming to GameCube.

In an interview with Wide Games, developer of the upcoming PS2 game Rush Club, GameSpot has discovered that the game will also be ported to GameCube and Xbox. Check out this excerpt:

GS: Do you have plans to bring the game to other consoles as well?

CJ: Absolutely. Atlas is a platform independent engine--running at the moment on the PC and PS2--and our tech team is ready to get cracking on the Xbox and GameCube versions.

GS: What are your thoughts on consoles such as the Xbox and the GameCube?

CJ: The Xbox is going to be awesome technically. It looks to me like Microsoft is going to have a lot of good launch titles, so I think it will be a great console. If Mario, Zelda, Diddy Kong, and Perfect Dark make appearances on the GameCube, I'll buy one.

Interesting that he didn't mention anything about the GameCube's technical prowess...I guess this guy knows what really matters!

Rush Club has been compared to Midnight Club: Street Racing, also on PS2. However, the only main similarity seems to be that both take place in cities instead of on normal race tracks. Rush Club is based on the premise that you're part of an illegal underground racing club. You have to try to win the race by avoiding (or destroying, outrunning, etc.) rival gangs' cars, policemen, etc. Apparently there is no "mechanic" element; if you win, you simply get better cars. You also get cash, which pays your entry fees for the next race and allows you to bribe non-playable characters, such as members of rival gangs and yes, even the police. Interestingly, Wide Games also noted that the soundtrack will be of the rap/hip-hop variety, which they believe isn't used enough in games.

Sounds like a pretty awesome idea for a game to me. What do you think? Let us know in the talkback!
