Square: Da Plot Thickens...

Square is sending company reps to Seattle. Unfortunately, Nintendo isn't the only console maker with offices in that city.

It's a slow news day & with the Square news over the weekend causing such a ruckus, I felt inclined to post this. One of our readers, Steven Constantino kindly emailed me about this story at IGNXbox, indicating Square may be indeed branching out but with Microsoft's console.

Evidently Square recently held a press event in Japan where Square Reps repeatedly stated they "were meeting with a company in Seattle" and then would laugh hysterically, playing it up as a joke. Could it be Nintendo of America? Maybe not, as IGNXbox suspects Square has been meeting with Microsoft concerning X-Box support. Of course, Square are remaining mum on the issue, except for the "Seattle" joke but Microsoft people were apparently spotted hanging out at the Square event, strengthening the possibility. Of course, Square (along folks from EA, Sega, Capcom, Enix, etc) were at Nintendo Space World, which doesn't necessarily single them (or anyone else) out as Gamecube developers. (Is it just me, but some of this coverage is taking on "tabloid" like qualities?)

At the very least, Square is making it clear they're not exclusive to Sony. As successful as Square is, I think that they would be interested in developing games for all next-gen consoles that can handle all the cinematics, er, gameplay that Square are renown for. So, Square may be talking to Microsoft, but Nintendo could be in the cards for Square too. Check out IGNXbox's report & sound off with your thoughts.
