Even more good info from our favorite game maker! Shiggy sure has been talkative lately...

Shiggy's getting pretty talkative lately. Well, this is a little leftover from E3, but it's good stuff none-the-less. The latest edition of Game Informer (July 2000) has an E3 recap (Hell, I thought ours was late), in which they interviewed a lot of developers. Of course, you can't forget Shiggy. A few words about his vision, as well as the typical "Dodge anything Dolphin two step." Don't be poopy pants...it's Shigeru talkin'! Here's the tender chunks of goodness.

Q: What will be crucial to a game's success on the Next Generation Platforms?

A: Unfortunately, I cannot tell you exactly what I am doing with the Dolphin project. Of course, we are working on a number of different games. What I can tell you is that the current situation in the market is like this: some specific family member becomes addicted to gameplay, and this is wrong. From the outside, people or other members of the family are afraid that he or she may become an outcast from society or something like that. Traditionally games are different, games are something that can be (and should be) enjoyed by a whole family together. I believe that we have to get back to those kind of basics of video gameplay, otherwise we won't see a bright future for expansion of the market. What can we do about it? As you know, the console is evolving and this technology is evolving and this technology may bring us to the new era.

Currently, we are also seeing the use of mobile technologies serving the Game Boy Advance, as well as other cellular phones. By combining these different platforms, we may be able to achieve some new approach. What I can tell you is that the technology alone cannot bring us to the new future. That is the most interesting thing about doing business now, I think.

Q: Is there room for four competitors in the Video Game industry?

A: I don't think there will be enough room. That is why we believe that the battle will be fought between Sega, Sony, and Microsoft. While Nintendo is going to do something really different from them.
