Not to be confused with the E3 presentation.

There will be a massive blowout of Smash Bros. Ultimate info this Wednesday.

Nintendo announced a Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct to air Wednesday at 10 a.m. Eastern / 7 a.m. Pacific at the EVO fighting game tounament. The presentation will be headed by Masahiro Sakurai.

The last two Smash Bros. specific presentation aired in December 2015, and announced Bayonetta and Corrin as the final DLC for the 3DS and Wii U versions of Smash.

Cool that it coincides with EVO. We're still 4 months out from the release date but to be fair Smash 4 had a direct in April and then another in October!

I don't play Smash, but Im very interested to see this Direct. The game is still months away, so I have aa feeling there wont be a huge amount of news in this Direct.

Luigi DudeAugust 05, 2018

We'll get at least one new unique character since Smash Directs always reveal one.  With the Echo fighters we'll probably get at least one of them as well.  Of course if they're going to go crazy with them I could maybe see more then one Echo being shown.  We should also see several new stages and more Assist Trophy's which are sure to cause outrage when they deconfirm curtain characters from being playable.

Oh and if we're going to get some kind of Adventure style single player mode this will be around the time to show it.  The Subspace Emissary was revealed around a similar time back in 2007 when Brawl was still planned for a December release that year.  Smash Run was officially revealed during the big April Direct in 2014 when the 3DS version was 4-5 months away.  So if we're going to get any kind of Adventure mode or Adventure mode lite, this will probably be the time to show it.

Indeed.

Man, I know that Summer used to be when everyone ran their re-runs, but who'd have thought that Nintendo would re-run their E3 showcase? :P

Heh, saw and had that same line of thought as well.

Fingers crossed for some good single-player news! I don't expect it, but I hope.

-Isabelle for a Villager echo. She's popular, seems likely.

-Mona as a Wario echo. Just because it would be hilarious on a variety of levels.

-Waluigi isn't a playable character because he's "too tall."

-Cat Suit Mario, Raccoon Mario, Metal Mario, Bee Suit Mario, Penguin Mario, Flying Squirrel Mario as Mario echoes. Because you can never have too much Mario.

-Dark Metal Pit as Dark Pit echo. Just to make sure no one forgets Kid Icarus Uprising was a thing.

-An elaborate trailer which sets it up to look like an Advance Wars character will finally be playable, but turns out to be introducing Linkle as playable instead. Trust me, this'll make sense in context when you see it.

-Handheld mode features an all-touch control scheme.

-There will be a stage where you can rub the faces of the Fire Emblem characters.

-A new mode called "Street Fighter" will change it to where moves are executed with large button combos rather than just one button and a direction.

-Ganondorf is now a Fox echo. Makes sense to me.

-New playable characters include Sandbag, Target, Fighting Polygon Team, Fighting Wire Frame, and Off-Screen Kid From the First Game.

This is what I've heard from leaks anyway. Seems plausible enough.

I'm expecting the direct to be mostly stages and game modes with one character and maybe a demo announcement.

ForgottenPearlAugust 06, 2018

I hope there's a wide variety of single player modes.  That's what I think is still really up in the air.

I wonder how long it will be? We're still far enough away from the game being released that I'm not sure if we should expect much from this Direct. It depends on what does Nintendo or Sakurai consider a big deal that's worth revealing.

That Linkle trailer stuff doesn't make sense. I guess I'll have to see it to see how it makes sense.

I think some of your leaks are probably inaccurate. It wouldn't be "Dark Metal Pit." It would be "Metal Dark Pit." I suppose the leaker might not be too familiar with gaming naming conventions, though, so I'll let it slide.

What I've heard about the Fox echo lines up with what you have, except this isn't the same Ganondorf we've seen. This Ganondorf will be based on the Wind Waker, and the actual name will be Ganondwarf, as he'll be shrunk to Fox's size.

As far as your last list of characters, from what I've heard, there's a reason they've had the sandbag displayed at all the big places where they've exhibited Smash Bros...
