Most definitely without a filter.

The Switch's worst kept secret is finally official, as Ubisoft has unveiled Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

Due to release on August 29, the strategy RPG sees Mario-themed Rabbids teleported to the Mushroom Kingdom, which made it unstable. The game was confirmed to be in development for three years. The soundtrack was also confirmed to be created by former Rare composer Grant Kirkhope.

A Day One edition of the game will be available according to pulled retail listings, but no indication as to what it contains. Figurines of the Rabbids are available at Ubisoft's online store.

NWR has posted some internal documentation on the title, which can be read here.

Ubisoft's online store has featured a preorder "Pixel Pack" of weapons, and a limited edition with a figurine, cards and a soundtrack CD.

I'm not sure that this game will be very worthwhile and the Rabbids are hard to endure, but it is always good to see Miyamoto on stage.  Strategy games are nice to have on portable systems, so that automatically pushes me a little closer to purchasing it.

The game looks pretty good! Looking forward to see how it shapes out.

Rabbids kinda strike me as Minions, which I find a little grating. But this looks colourful and playful so that's reason for optimism, kinda hard to see how the game will play with this trailer. Yoshi looks cute and I liked that Peach didn't need saving this time.

It's weird how there's a "Mario Shot First" moment here though, that feels out of character a little? I'll be curious how it plays, strategy with gunplay sounds like a lot of it will be cover-based?

If you watch the Ubisoft presentation, they have gameplay near the beginning.  It is worth it to see Miyamoto walk out and goof around with yet another prop.

Whenever I see someone say Rabbids remind them of Minions, I wonder if they know that Rabbids came first? Minions first appeared in "Despicable Me" from June 2007, but Rabbids first appeared in "Rayman Raving Rabbids" from November 2006.

Haha yeah you're right! I vaguely remember a rather annoying advertisement campaign for Rabbids actually, with them photoshopped into well known monuments or overturned cars? I think I was just a little salty that Rayman's franchise was centered on these new characters now, as I wanted a Rayman 4 back then.

As for the Minions comparison, it's mostly because of the voices I think. The sort of incoherent babble? I mean you could argue both Minions and Rabbids are sort of like Smurfs in that they all look very similar but have one-note personality traits you can derive from what they're carrying/wearing, but at least the Smurfs are capable of proper speech.

I should add that I've never seen a Despicable Minions movie, nor played a Rabbids game so I'm totally judging by the cover here. Maybe they're both really funny in context but the advertisement of Rabbids (and Minions) has so far not convinced me; this game might change that.

Gameplay for this looks solid and nice.  It seems similar to Xcom and it is pretty varied.  I did like the personality of the Mushroom Kingdom bunch but not that much of the Rabbids. I wonder if one can make their own team without the Rabbids?

Nintendo and Ubisoft teaming up to make an XCOM game. I will actually buy this now.

When the leaks happened, I was expecting this to be some sort of lame Mario and Luigi or Paper Mario knock off. But this actually looks really good, I will buy it for sure.

This looks better than it has any right to be.
