A big day for physical releases of digital titles.

XSEED will be handling distribution titles for an upcoming eShop title as well as the disc version of a Kickstarter success.

The company announced today that they would be the distributors for the physical release of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. The Wii U game will come with a 20-track soundtrack CD, and will retail as the "Risky Beats Collection" for $29.99 US.

As well, XSEED will be the publisher for Exile's End, a "dark and futuristic adventure-style sidescroller" coming to the Wii U eShop. No release date was given for the game.

So for people who backed Shantae, but would much much much rather have a physical copy, the only option is to double-dip right?

I feel slightly burned by this news, but it's not anyone's fault but mine.  Just another in a list of reasons why backing video games literally years in advance is a bad idea.

Still pretty awesome news for WayForward that their character is getting a cool retail release.

Oh damn, I'm so getting the retail version.

PhilPhillip Stortzum, June 03, 2016

Agreed, Soren! Love some of these games are getting retail versions!

StratosJune 04, 2016

Is this the same Shantae game that was a part of the Humble Bundle last month? If so I already own it.

PhilPhillip Stortzum, June 04, 2016

No, this is a new game. Looks similar to DuckTales Remastered with its 2D sprites and 3D environments.

StratosJune 04, 2016

Ducktales?!? Well guess I will have to get it now!

PhilPhillip Stortzum, June 04, 2016

Here you go, Stratos!

Also, Wayforward tweeted a Gamestop page featuring a release date! (Image from the NeoGAF topic on the subject, saved to IMGUR, in case the image from NeoGAF would turn into a dong or somethin'.)

This also reminds me that I need to get Shovel Knight as well. This may be an indie summer for me.

I don't regret supporting the Kickstarter, but man, I want that retail version. I think I can justify double dipping if there's a physical NX version.

Get the amiibo as well, if you have someone to play the game co-op with. It's a lot of fun. Even without a co-op partner, the data that is saved on the amiibo is pretty cool.

StratosJune 04, 2016

Plan on it, if only to have co-op available for the rare chance that I play with a friend.

Shovel Knight co-op is a really good addition. Plays extremely well. Is that mode really exclusive to the Wii U version?  Almost a shame that more people don't get to enjoy it - but a superb exclusive if true, I'd argue it makes the Wii U version the best one.

Yeah, I don't really regret backing either - just would much, much rather own a physical copy even at a higher price. If they had known back in the day it would get physical distribution then I would have backed accordingly. Of course they didn't, so it's just one of those things that happen.

Maybe I'll gift my digital code to my nephew (who doesn't much care) and will buy physical for myself...

PhilPhillip Stortzum, June 05, 2016

Yeah, it's exclusive to the Wii U version and the amiibo.
