Good prices for great games.

Naturally, last week at Target I bought Super Street Fighter IV 3D on clearance... for fifteen bucks. So that sale price is a real burn, right there. But otherwise... what the hell, Capcom? I wanted Virtual Console deals!

I brought mine for clearance at $2 (legit) at Big W (oz).

Which of those Monster Hunter games is better for one's first Monster Hunter?

Monster Hunter 3 is a very good game, and it's really nice if you have the hardware to be able to swap your character between the big screen (Wii U version) and the small screen (3DS version). However, if you mostly game at home that might not be necessary since you could just play off-screen with Wii U and get a similar effect.

However, my understanding is that Monster Hunter 4 is the better game for a first time player. Reviewers were pretty consistent in stating that the pacing when you start off has been improved - and starting off (learning all the systems of the games: how to fight, how to gather and combine items, how to craft) can be a long and arduous process otherwise.

Summary: I think either game is great, but you'll probably have more fun learning the ropes with 4.

DuckTales is a no brainer at that price.  I'll have to read up on that D&D game, and I don't know about RE Mercs.  I was really interested in it 4 years ago but the price, some of the gameplay vids, and the single save file turned me off from it.  Then that's what sales are for, I might try it for $7 whereas even $20 is too much.

MH4 is a little better with tutorials, but MH3 has an overall lower difficulty. Therefore, 4 would be slightly easier to learn, but 3 would be easier to play once you do learn. With either game though, there will be many things the game doesn't explain that you'll just have to figure out through trial and error, and much of the game's mechanics defy general logic, or even regular game logic, so you have to go against what you think you know and play the game the way it wants you to. No matter which you choose, the series isn't very welcoming to newbies and you'll need lots of patience.

If you plan to play online, the 3DS version of MH3 does not natively have online play: you instead connect using the Wii U, and you need to have a wired connection for Wii U for it to work. Get MH3 for Wii U, or MH4 for 3DS if you want online. 3 actually has better online features, such as private messaging, chatting during a quest, better search features... all things that are strangely absent from 4.

Hmm...cheapest it's been right?  Since it's an eshop ONLY title I might have to buy it at that price.  Still they should throw in Miles Edgeworth 2 on eshop while they're at it.
