It baffles me how Reggie starts off the match with a half circle hadoken but doesn't understand how to recover properly, talk about priorities.


The Super Mario Maker segment totally sold me on the game, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a full price retail release and am glad they allowed the game cook for another year instead of releasing it last year in the state it was last E3.

I watched a little of it, including the Mario maker levels. 

Reggie was pretty salty after not only getting Roflstomped, but also Hungrybox taunting/teasing him through the entire time.  I don't miss being friends with "serious" smashers, that kind of attitude is rampant.

I had a lot of fun watching the Mario maker levels. Still just isn't enough there to compel me on a purchase.

Amazing just like last year.

Probably an even better one since while last year's show didn't sold me on on Smash, this has sold Super Mario Maker.

John Numbers' performance was amazing starting from dominating or 200cc FZero track to complete obliteration on NSMB Maker stage.

Great show.

John's Super Mario Maker performance was insane. No way I could have made those plays on-stage with the crowd watching.


Props to Nintendo, Kevin, the other hosts and the contestants. What a show!

The whole event was great.

I liked that a game was announced on the floor for the players to play.  And the game looked really fun.

And Super Mario Maker really wowed me.  I can't wait to see what else people can come up with.

They were just trying to put on a show. I don't follow competitive Smash super closely, but I do tune in for most of the majors, and Hungrybox isn't usually one to taunt. He actually goes out of his way to be a good sport most of the time, even when he loses. It would have been pretty boring if he just shook Reggie's hand, exchanged a couple pleasantries, and walked off the stage (which is standard tournament fare, at least now).

Watching the two of them go "head-to-head" at the end makes me think Nintendo should have brought back the "You vs. Boo" mode from SMBDX.

I was pretty mixed on the whole affair. I thought the Splatoon & 3DS tech demo sections were pretty flat (not helped at all by not being able to follow which characters were on which team since you couldn't see their names). I completely tuned out during the Mario Kart & Smash sections, especially since Timed doesn't really do it for me. I did like the Retro sections that weren't Balloon Fight, though.

The Mario Maker section was funny in that "let's watch these 2 dudes get continually punished and trolled" sort of way and it DID work very well as a competitive game, but at the same time I didn't see anything particularly new there. ROM hackers have been making bullshit, trolling Mario stages and putting them up online for years, if not decades. It's cute, but I was hoping to get some hint of an actual campaign structure from quality level designers that I could really latch onto. Instead, we saw I Wanna be the Guy. That's not so appealing to me. Maybe we'll see more traditional Mario stages on Tuesday.

Overall, a good show. Some things on the production end could have been better presented. There are limits on some of the games (e.g. Splatoon, Blast Ball) that made it hard to follow who's who.


The Super Mario Maker segment was the center piece of the show and it was awesome. Now here's to hoping the game will have the level sharing and curating that the game needs and deserves.

I really loved scanning through this event...and the final round I had a smile on my face the entire time.  I continually laughed.


I loved the Tree House levels.  Yes, they were trolling, and yes they were difficult, but there was still a balance and a cruel but sophisticated design in those 4 levels.  I was quite impressed with what he can do.

I know it was all in jest, it's just that Hungrybox's demeanor brought me back to several college tournaments I went with friends, where there ARE a lot of people who say shit like that and think they're funny.

While I miss the excitement of playing against people who are leagues better than me, i'm glad to have distanced myself from being around those kind of people.
