Link is trading in Epona for a shinier model.

The Mario Kart 8 DLC coming later this year will feature the Master Cycle, a horse themed motorcycle made just for Link.

Revealed on their Twitter this morning, Nintendo of America touted the bike as having "plenty of horse power." The bike is decked out with Triforce hubcaps as well as a Hylian shield for side protection.

The first Mario Kart 8 DLC pack is set to launch this November and include Link, Tanooki Mario, and Cat Peach. The pack will also include 4 new karts and 8 new tracks. A second DLC pack is slated to launch in May 2015.

If you showed me that even a few years ago I would have assumed it was some really silly fan art.  It's the Nintendo equivalent of the "Tyrannosaurs in F-14s" Calvin & Hobbes comic.

I wish it was just a real horse.

Ha ha ha. That would have been hilarious. Epona just running along side the go-carts while Link hangs on. Then when blue shells and other items hit Epona, he just neighs and gets knocked around from the abuse. I'm sure PETA would love it. I'd be laughing though.

This just looks so wrong.

Yeah, a real horse would be funnier.

I think I've seen this horse somewhere before ...

This is rad. I really like it. Also given how the last few Zelda games, home and portable console games, have steadily increased the amount and complexity of technology and machinery, this doesn't look too out of place.

Hmmm... needs more steam punk to look legit.
