Five packs will hit over the next few months bringing new characters, weapons, stages, and adventure maps.

Five DLC packs are coming to Hyrule Warriors in the coming months, adding new characters, weapons, stages, and much more.

The first pack, which is free, comes to Japan on September 30 and North America and Europe on October 16. It includes the three Hyrule Warriors villains (Cia, Volga, and Wizzro) as playable characters. Also on October 16, a paid Master Quest DLC Pack will debut and add a new weapon, scenario, adventure map, and two costumes.

Three other packs will come later, including a Twilight Princess pack in November, a Majora's Mask one in January, and a Boss one in February. If you pre-order all of the packs for $19.99/€14.99, you can unlock a Dark Link costume right now. There is no word on individual pack pricing in North America or Europe yet. See below for the full list of DLC:

  • Hyrule Warriors Characters (Free, September 30) - Three new playable characters (Cia, Volga, Wizzro)
  • Master Quest Pack (October 16) - New weapon, scenario, adventure map, and two costumes
  • Twilight Princess Pack (November) - New character, weapon, adventure map, and two costumes
  • Majora's Mask Pack (January) - Two new characters, adventure map, and three costumes
  • Boss Pack (February) - Two new games modes

It's unknown just what exactly an adventure map is, but considering the Adventure Mode in Hyrule Warriors is based on a map of the original Legend of Zelda with a stage representing each square, it's possible that the new adventure maps could either be alternate versions of that map or maps from other Zelda games.

Yay!
I am really looking forward to this game and I will be a sucker for some of the DLC.

Glad they announced this early so now I know not to bother buying the game until next year when Hyrule Warriors Ultimate Last Round comes out with all of this included.

As a retail product? If so, you'll probably be waiting forever. I doubt the game will sell so much that they'll release another full version of the game. Maybe as a Japan exclusive (if that), but I doubt they'd do it for the West.

Some of the DLC sounds like it may really add to the game, so I look forward to more details.

This lends itself to DKC far better than a traditional Zelda game would.  I wonder if that was part of the pitch to Nintendo in the first place? ;)

I hope they do the Map to Zelda II

King of TwitchSeptember 18, 2014

Cool. The MM one will probably be Zora Link but who's the other character? Will it be a Gerudo chick or the Crazy Mask Salesman? That would be something. Or one of the giants?

Terminia confirmed.

$19.99 for all the packs is a fairer price than what the Japanese will have to pay. As for the existence of this DLC, this was to be expected given the developer and current Nintendo trends.

The characters are the most important of the DLC, but I do hope there will be new maps and environments. It would be so disappointing if none of the DLC packs contain new maps.

What does any of this have to do with Donkey Kong Country? ;)

It's Murphy's Law that the silliest typos reserve themselves for the talkback thread.

I think secretly your subconscious is hoping for DKC DLC which will introduce King Krool as a Villian and the Kongs as heroes.

I want a DKC where you play as K Rool and the Kongs are villains. All the Kremlings are anemic so he needs to get the bananas back to fix their iron deficiency.

Romani and/or Cremia better be playable

The game has been out for a few days, and it's already sporting prepurchase options for future DLC? This game already didn't appeal to me, but now I am ethically obliged to skip it.

Ethically obliged? I think that's silly, sorry. If the game is not your cup of tea, fine, don't buy. But dressing up your non-purchase as some sort of "statement" is ineffective at best, disingenuous at worst. If it is a fun game you think you might like, you could always pick it up but decline the DLC. That's voting with your wallet in a more effective way, I think. The message is clearer: you do not support DLC. Or you could write them a protest letter. Or make a point to buy used and also write a protest letter. Or wait for a "special edition" version with all the DLC at the regular or discounted price.
But you will do none of these things, I suspect, because you've already stated the game does not appeal to you. Adding that you are "high-minded" in your disinterest is lazy chest-thumping.

Fatty The HuttSeptember 23, 2014

don't know what happened with that fragment sentence above but it should have read "is ineffective at best, disingenuous at worst. "

Sort of a K Rool's Inside Story, eh? If Retro were Alpha Dream, your idea would have an even chance of happening!
