The videogame-streaming site will be the latest to enter the Google fold.

YouTube, owned by Google, is set to acquire videogame-streaming site Twitch.

Variety reports that the $1 billion dollar acquisition is expected to be announced soon, sources within the merger are saying. U.S. regulators within the Justice Department are expected to challenge the deal as YouTube's status as the top platform for videos online brings to question anti-competitive issues online.

Both YouTube and Twitch have not commented on the reports.

Not thrilled about this. I use Twitch on a daily basis and I really don't want to join Google+ to use it.

YouTube Plays Pokemon just doesn't have the same ring to it.

And I don't think this merger will be blocked, even though it kinda should be.  US Gov doesn't really know how the internet works.

That's hilarious. They know how it works better than we do. Just not social media and video services.

Wow, I thought AT&T buying DirecTV was going to be the big merger of the day.

If they're not blocking Comcast-Time Warner they wouldn't even consider blocking this for a second.

The name didn't sound immediately familiar, but is this that site where a buncha people played Pokemon by typing in inputs?

Yes it is.

I can't wait to have to log in with my Google account to Start9. This won't happen due to the de-emphasis of Google+

Does this mean twitch will be functional on mobile because that's an improvement right there.
