3DS System Update 7.0 Released

Bring on the Miiverse!

Nintendo has released System Software version 7.0 for Nintendo 3DS, which includes Miiverse support in addition to several other features. Notably, the system update allows users to link a Nintendo Network ID they've already established on Wii U, or create a new Nintendo Network ID. This functionality allows players with Wii U and 3DS to share a common wallet across the eShop on both systems.

Aside from Miiverse, another smaller enhancement included is a change in the way the user launches the 3DS Camera app. Previously, a user would press either L or R from the home screen. In System Software version 7.0, a user must press L and R simultaneously to launch the app. This should prevent the user from launching it by accident.

Another change with this system update is the removal of the 3DS system transfer limit. Previously, the system transfer could only be performed 5 times. That limit has been removed in System Software 7.0.

With the 3DS Miiverse launch, the following games have already received communities in the service:

  • Pokémon X & Pokémon Y
  • Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  • Mario Party: Island Tour
  • Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
  • Mario Kart 7
  • Super Mario 3D Land
  • New Super Mario Bros. 2
  • Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
  • Scribblenauts™ Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure
  • Skylanders SWAP Force™
  • Phoenix Wright®: Ace Attorney® - Dual Destinies
  • Sonic Lost World™
  • Monster Hunter™ 3 Ultimate

Is anyone else having problems with this on their 3DS?

I don't own a Wii U so I had to set up a new Nintendo Network ID.  I followed all the simple steps and it was just like registering any other product.  But when I go to launch the Miiverse from the Home menu, the first thing it asks you to do it log into your Nintendo Network ID.  I type in my password and it says it's invalid.  I tried a couple variations (even though I'm pretty sure it's correct since you have to type it in twice when you set it up), and still invalid.  I do the whole "Forgot Password?" thing to set up a temporary password.  I use that temp password and create a new password yet again.  That seemed to work fine.  I then go back into the Miiverse and type in my new password and it says it's invalid.

The same thing now happens when I try to use the 3DS eShop.  The first thing it now asks you to do is to log into your Nintendo Network ID name/pass.  I attempt to do that and it says that the password is invalid.  So now I'm locked out of the 3DS eShop.

Anyone else?

From Hardcoregamer.com, hope it helps:

Once you install the update, you’ll see the Miiverse icon added to the top bar. After selecting the app, you’ll be asked to sign into the Nintendo Network by making an account or using your existing account. If you own one from the Nintendo Wii U, simply enter your username, password and E-Mail to sign in. This will also allow you to use your Nintendo Network Mii or whatever Mii is on your 3DS. Reopen the app and you’ll be asked to sign in yet again. Make sure to click save password, if you want to avoid this in the future, before typing in your password and you’re good to go.

Hm... doesn't really help.

I did click launch the Miiverse and create a new Nintendo Network ID.  I filled out all the fields sucessfully... or I think I did.  I entered all the information including a Nintendo Network ID name and password.  Immediately after setting that up, I tried launching it again, and entered my brand new password.  It didn't like it.  So I reset my password (which successfully sent the reset password info to my email address that the account is linked to) and it still didn't work.

I sent an email to Nintendo.  I don't expect a reply until tomorrow.

Can you enter miiverse from your pc with your account data?

I feel like these two things are going to be largely ignored by most people, but I find them to be great additions. I'm always accidentally launching the camera app which quite honestly I never actually use. And the transfer limit was simply ridiculous so I'm glad Nintendo finally did away with it.

Next step, unified Virtual Console and then we're really cooking!

I am having issues on the eshop login but I'm gonna assume its just lots of people logging in at once.

SundoulosDecember 10, 2013

I've had problems with the eshop as well.  It could be that it's just down this morning for some reason.

Aero LeviathanDecember 10, 2013

I entered my password wrong three times before I figured out that it was because the Miiverse login screen uses a completely different keyboard than the normal system keyboard that's used everywhere else. The vertical rows of letters are not aligned like they normally are (look on a computer keyboard, A is not directly below Q... it is down and slightly to the right). This was causing me to type where a letter should be, rather than where it actually was. Also, the shift key behaves like a caps lock key, which might cause you problems if you have a password with capitals in it. On the normal keyboard, there are two separate keys for shift and caps lock, but not on this one.

Awful, bizarre UI design decision to use a different keyboard. Can't imagine why they did that.

Anyway, just pay very close attention to what's happening on screen when typing your password.

Now it accepts my password, but I'm getting error 011-3051 whenever I try to get to eShop. Miiverse works.

ejamerDecember 10, 2013

Is it bad to say that my favorite part of this update is knowing my camera app won't be launching accidentally all the time?

Miiverse is good too I guess...

KITT 10KDecember 10, 2013

I updated my 3DS at 1:20am this morning and didn't have too big of a problem getting it to work. I also have the Wii U so I'm just glad that the update is working.

Yeah, I figured it out right before I went to sleep.

The keyboard to set up your password is different than the keyboard used to enter your password.  The shift key on the one used to enter your password only capitalizes the very next letter you enter and the shift key used to enter your password toggles it into caps lock until you toggle it back off.

It's weird they would use 2 different keyboards and I should have been paying more attention.

No. I'm ridiculously excited about that part even though it's a total first world problem. +1 for appreciating the little things!

Miiverse is a great addition though I'm not sure how much I'll use it on 3DS since I usually have Wi-Fi off at home. I only ever turn it on when I'm hoping (normally in vain) to get Streetpasses or updating the firmware.

azekeDecember 10, 2013

Screenshots from Wii U games look super weird when looked at on 3DS.

Screenshots from 3DS look even weirder from Wii U! :D

There are times I wonder if Nintendo is just stalking Shaymin...

nickmitchDecember 10, 2013

Seriously, that camera thing is a great update. I've definitely had some accidental camera openings.

I haven't been able to get into the eShop since updating. Last night and this morning, all I get is error 011-3051.

ThomasODecember 10, 2013

@Chad: If your password has a mixture of capital and lowercase letters, here's the potential problem: the Shift key is actually a Caps Lock key. It doesn't go back to lower case upon typing one letter.

ThomasODecember 10, 2013

Oops, just saw you knew that already. Can't modify posts here for some reason.

That would be because a few have violated the trust for the whole.
It's also why we can't have nice things.

Gotta live with spelling errors and incomplete thoughts in Talkback, so take your time and proofread.
There's no rush though as conversations don't move that quick around here unless it's E3.

GrabMyBoomstickDecember 10, 2013

Successfully updated my 3DS earlier this morning to incorporate MiiVerse. I don't own a Wii U just yet (planning on changing that soon though), so it was kind of cool to be able to finally participate in MiiVerse. However, I'm kind of annoyed that you can't use the friend request or message feature in the 3DS version like you apparently can on the Wii U. Why would they not include that I wonder? Anyway, it's definitely a step in the right direction.  :)

Oh and yeah, I also cannot access the eShop atm, but it's good to hear that no one else can either. I thought maybe I had screwed something up after I did the update; Hope the eShop is back up by this evening.

Sweet!  I just bought the Zelda 3DSXL and had to transfer from my AC 3DSXL, which was a transfer from my launch 3DS and I was a little worried... Great to know that was removed.

I'm a little sad that you can only have one account on one 3DS though.  I'd like to be able to use one account across all three 3DS systems (although I know I'd have to buy software for each - not wanting three downloads for one purchase... just one wallet for all my purchases!)

BlackNMild2k1December 10, 2013

That's where a proper Family acct should come into play.

UncleBob, Mrs.Bob & BabyBob each own a 3DS tied to the BobFamily acct.
UncleBob buys a game, and now Mrs.Bob and BabyBob also get to download and play it on their own 3DS too.

CericDecember 10, 2013

Yeah...
My son's getting a 2DS for Christmas and I would like to let him have a lot of the digital games as I have as well but... *shrug*

Any updates from Nintendo regarding this issue?
happened to me as well.

AdrockDecember 10, 2013

Last night, Nintendo of America said the eshop would be undergoing maintenance today from 9am to 8pm PST. I read this on the Google.

I looked up the error code on Nintendo's support page, it means the eShop is having network problems. You can check the status of the network here: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/network/en_na/network_status.jsp (The Wii U is seeing some downtime too apparently)

It's because of the high amounts of traffic, it went down at around 1am PST, though it'll be intermittentlyup throughout the day, which is why some people aren't seeing the error message..

leahsdadDecember 10, 2013

I wasn't able to get into the eshop until about 1pm PDT, and it still took me 2 tries, and the 2nd time I had the eshop loading screen spinning around for a good 8 minutes.

But man, with my Wii U and 3DS wallets combined, it's like I've just made money!  Nice.

BTW, is the Best Buy Eshop card sale still going on?

Mop it upDecember 10, 2013

I'm glad about the camera activation thing, it's too easy to accidentally bump a shoulder button when moving the system around that I've activated it by accident several times. Guess I'm not the only one who did that, seeing as they probably got some feedback about it which is why they changed it.

The transfer limit is nice as well. I've already done one, and I'm sure it won't be the last. No idea if I'll reach five, but it does feel like a possibility so it's nice to know I shouldn't have to worry about that in the future.

Fixed that for you.

Seriously though, I'm even (mostly) okay with not being able to redownload it on all systems for free.  I just want a singular wallet to pull from when I want to buy something.
