Mario and Luigi Jump into the New Wii U Deluxe Set

New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U Packaged Together in New Configuration

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nintendo is launching a new Wii U Deluxe Set that puts the focus on value, and highlights the two biggest names in video games: Mario and his brother, Luigi. Available in stores on Nov. 1, the Wii U Deluxe model will come with two games – New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U – all on one disc. The new configuration will sell at the low suggested retail price of $299.99, and replaces the existing Wii U Deluxe Set, which included Nintendo Land. For fans who want to experience the uproarious fun of Nintendo Land, the game can still be purchased separately in stores and as a download in the Nintendo eShop at a new low suggested retail price of $29.99, also beginning Nov. 1.

The beautiful, limited-edition Wii U Deluxe bundle that comes with a download code forThe Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, a gorgeous GamePad controller adorned with art inspired by The Legend of Zelda series and a download code for a digital copy of Hyrule Historia is also still available at a suggested retail price of $299.99 while supplies last.

“Mario and Luigi are two of the biggest heroes in video games,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “This new Wii U configuration gives people instant access to not one, but two of the most well-received Wii U games. It’s another example of the tremendous value and variety that Nintendo is offering consumers this holiday season.”

New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U are two of the best games on Wii U. The games offer players two separate platforming adventures – one starring Mario and one starring Luigi – each filled with dozens of creative levels. Both Mario and Luigi control differently, giving each game a distinct feel and challenge. Both games showcase the refreshing originality and game play that can only be found on Nintendo systems.

Remember that Wii U features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other features, visit http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu.

Wow, so for $330 you can get Wii U Deluxe, Mario U, Luigi U, and Nintendo Land!
That's awesome. This thing will hopefully really sell like crazy now!!!

tendoboy1984October 23, 2013

2 great games included for free? Nintendo is finally getting their shit together. Microsoft's Xbox 360 holiday bundles offer more value, in my opinion.

motangOctober 24, 2013

This bundle really has my name on it!  ;D

I don't think it's such a good idea to exclude Nintendo Land. Unfortunate or not, Nintendo Land is still the best use of the GamePad to date, so it's the best current game to show the merits of the controller. NSMBU doesn't use it in any meaningful way, so it runs the risk of people wondering what is the point of it.

I'm with Mop it up charge an extra $30 for it and include Nintendo Land

My nephew went bonkers with the Gamepad assist mode that I had completely dismissed. If they're aiming these at families it could still demonstrate value.

I hate that they aren't including Nintendo Land, however, Magic Cow has a legit point. I have a 2 year old son and a 4 year old daughter and they've loved using the gamepad on both mario U and luigi U plus my daughter likes being Nabbit on Luigi U. But that only works if you have young kids I can tell you right now my wife doesn't want to do either of those, but when we play nintendo land it works great In animal crossing she likes being a kid and I like being the guards, in Zelda she prefers to be the archer and I like having a sword, in Metroid I like running the ship and she likes being samus on the ground. I wish the game would have included Mario U and Nintendo Land for $299 and they could buy Luigi U for $20.

By the sound of things, Nintendo Land should be pre-installed on every unit.

Too bad they didn't bundle Super Mario 3D World with the system. Do it with a commemorative SNES style classic controller to tug on people's nostalgic memories of the SNES and Super Mario World. Color the system like an SNES system while they are at it.

I'm interested to see what the packaging of the dual game disc will look like. Will it have a green case or a red case? I want to know if it is worth hunting down a dual-disc copy later-on if I don't get this bundle and if there is any special integrated features. An overarching achievement system like in the Prime Trilogy would be nice but even a gateway menu like in Super Mario All-Stars would be worth going for this version in my book.

Why can I not edit my posts here? Is that feature disabled?

Can someone explain the eShop coupon more? Is it a one-time discount on a purchase of $50 or more? Is it on a certain number of purchases or a time-limit? Or is this a permanent perk for the owner of the system?

Leo13October 27, 2013

When you ask about the eShop coupon I assume you're talking about the deluxe digital promotion yes?

For every $50 you spend in the eShop you can go log onto the deluxe digital promotion website and get a code that gives you $5 credit in the eShop. If you spend $50 across 3 weeks by buying several virtual console games then you can still get the code as it doesn't have to be in the same transaction. And if you buy Super Mario 3D World for $59 then you'll immediately be able to get 1 code and you'll have $9 towards the next code.

StratosOctober 27, 2013

But how long does the discount last? Can I keep doing this indefinitely or will the ability to cash in for coupons eventually go away?

Why haven't you checked Nintendo's website instead of asking here? It's all explained there:

Also, post editing was disabled for TalkBack due to recent violations. No idea if the feature will ever be reinstated, so you'd better use the preview button to be sure what you're entering is complete and correct.

Leo13October 27, 2013

all purchases must be made by Dec 31, 2014
all codes must be received by March 31, 2015
all codes must be redeemed by June 30, 2015

Leo13October 27, 2013

StratosOctober 28, 2013

Thanks for the information Leo.

I asked here because sometimes users have more knowledge and information than official outlets may give out. Plus it can help foster discussion within the community.

Mop it upOctober 28, 2013

I don't think people here would know the end dates better than Nintendo...

StratosOctober 28, 2013

Nintendo sometimes sucks at dispersing details to consumers and we have to hunt for specific answers to our questions.

Admit it, you were just too lazy to look it up. :P

$300 for a "mid-range" console with 2 free games is a better value than spending $400-$500 for a "high-end" console, in my opinion. It's also the reason why I chose the 3DS over the PS Vita. And why I'll choose a Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire over an iPad Mini.

I can't afford expensive gadgets, especially anything priced over $300. It's also the reason why I chose the 3DS over the PS Vita. And why I'll choose a Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire over an iPad Mini.
