Hacking into Chicago's mainframe will have to wait a few more months.

Upcoming open-world action game Watch Dogs has been delayed until spring 2014, several months after its initial November 2013 release date.

Ubisoft today issued a statement explaining that this delay is to ensure that the development team can produce a high quality final product.

"Our ambition from the start with Watch Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we've made the tough decision to delay the release until Spring 2014," the statement read.

"We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience."

Revealed at last year's E3, Watch Dogs is a futuristic action-adventure title starring Aiden Pearce, a hacker who gains access to all electronic and information systems in Chicago. Earlier this month, the game's creative director, Jonathan Morin, stated that the Wii U version would have superior graphics compared to the current generation versions on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Ubisoft will continue to support the Wii U in 2014!  ;)

Even though this was one of the few AAA third party games I was anticipating, I'm okay with this. I still have Batman, Wind Waker, and Wii Fit U to get this Holiday season.

Maybe I should get AC:Pirates! or Ghost Dog instead?

Ubisoft might have done this because GTA V might have taken up all of the space in people's free time for big sand box games and they hope that by next spring it will disipate enough for Watchdogs to be on more people's radar.

It may also be a reaction to the sales of Rayman Legends in a competitive time of year,

I look at it this way: We've seen pretty much every version of the game - even the WiiU! - at some point in development, except for the Xbone version.

They were either gimping the PS4 version unnecessarily, or delaying the Xbone version and Microsoft's rules don't appear to allow that if Rayman Legends is any indication. So... everybody loses.

I have to miss out on a quality Wii U because of a console that I greatly despise (Xbox One)?

Well, we all know whose fault that is, don't we?

Releasing this game same day as Ass4 was pure insanity.

I am not bummed out by it, still have to finish previous Assasin Creed games to even start thinking about buying yet another open-world game.
