I'm still holding out for a clear one...

A black 3DS XL model will be coming to Canada this weekend, according to an ad sent to Go Nintendo. The ad lists the black 3DS at $179.97 and will be available on July 26.

The black 3DS XL model was recently released in the UK as part of the Monster Hunter 3 bundle. Currently available colors (excluding special editions) are: blue/black, red/black and pink/white.

Talkback

Note that the sale in question is on sale for $20 off. Still, if you want it...

Also, it's either in the Mario and Luigi ad, or the camera is b0rked.

At long last. This needs to be all of North America and then...

Sigh, I don't understand why such a ubiquitous color is taking so long to reach the US. I just hope there'll be a promotion upon the release of the color here when it arrives this holiday (my guess).

The ONLY reason I don't have an XL yet.

The black 3DS XL is being advertised with Mario and Luigi: Dream Team (which I immediately thought would be green, but I recall there being a special Luigi 3DS XL in Japan so we're probably getting black instead). I suspect black will be a new color sold alongside (possibly replacing either red or blue) rather than a special limited edition thing like the Animal Crossing 3DS XL.

Still, if Nintendo wants to play around with different colors, I think it would be beneficial to them to always have a neutral color like black or white (even Silver). Like you, I would have already had an XL if black was available from day one. I may have considered blue if it was a darker shade. Oh well.

Its so odd that Black, SIlver , or white weren't at launch. Its the biggest reason why I refused to get a XL despite really wanting one.

I like the black/gray of the original 3DS, so I would be fine with a 3DS XL like that.

Are Canadian 3DSs and games region locked from the US? I assume North America is treated as one region, so maybe it could be imported and use US games.

Yes, they are the same region and play the same games.

I find black boring, but I know it's a popular colour so it's a little weird it wasn't one of the first.

I knew when I bought my XL a few weeks ago that there would be a better color announced almost immediately after that.

Scratch that and reverse it.

I'd say August 11 (Mario and Luigi launch day) is more likely now.

Naw, I got my AC Edition 3DS XL.  That's all I need.

If anyone was wondering, this is finally official. August 11 is the release date. I may wait until Target or Best Buy has one of those $30 off sales which I think Best Buy just had last Friday. No rush, especially since Monster Hunter 4 still doesn't have a US release date and technically isn't even confirmed to be released outside Japan.
