Frostbite 3 Is 'Not Impossible' on Wii U

If gamers buy the Wii U, EA will make games for it.

It isn't impossible to run the Frostbite 3 engine on the Wii U after all, according to EA's Patrick Söderlund.

This is after previous news that it wasn't possible to run DICE's engine on the system. In an interview with Patrick Söderlund on 4Gamer, he revealed this information but said that their focus is on PS4 and Xbox One, and that games would be made for the Wii U when there is a larger install base.

Nice of him to leave things open. Given EA's troubles and foci, I doubt we will be seeing Wii U games powered by Frostbite 3.

I think we all suspected that.

File under "No s**t, sherlock".

It might just be me, and although EA still refuses to support the Wii U, it appears as though they have back tracked from disliking Nintendo too much. I wonder if some of their investors or partners might have gotten into their ear and told them to "cool it" until the Wii U picks up? Either way I want Battlefield 4 on the Wii U.

I hate this statement companies like EA are making because....
How many people have a PS4 or Xbox One right now?
Their install base is 0 but it didnt stop production on them.

THE JACKEL

Couldn't EA and other third parties create the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions first and then port those games over to the Wii U and make it the lead development platform between the PS4 and XBone? It would be easier to up port from the Wii U to the PS4 and Xbone.

That would be the rational thing to do given the larger landscape, to treat the WiiU like the PS2. Slow walk next gen while high-profile exclusives steadily appear on the new platforms, building a solid enthusiast userbase while keeping the 360 and PS3 alive.

Probably not going to happen, though.

You know, EA is really terrible at controlling their message.

If the honest answer is " Frostbite 3 is possible on Wii U, but there isn't enough of an install base as of today to make it profitable to spend the resources to port these games", then just say that.

Them having to walk back their statements each time makes them seem unprofessional at best, and childish at worst.

Why in the world would you make the Wii U the lead platform for the next gen consoles, especially given the console's pitiful sales? It's would be like making the Wii the lead platform this last generation when the 360 and PS3 were on a completely different level. The gap between their tech is just too great. Now, if the Wii U were selling better, I could see the Wii U being the lead platform for 360/PS3-tier games, platforms the Wii U can actually compete with.

Why in the world would you make the Wii U the lead platform for the next gen consoles, especially given the console's ZERO sales due to them not even being out yet?

I am SICK and TIRED of this crap. Wii U is NOT doing horribly in sales. They just did not meet their sales goals. That is like you leaving the house to sell 10 books but only selling 7. The sales weren't what you wanted but they weren't "pitiful" either.

So, broodwars and anybody else who think that what I'm saying is just damage control from a 'fanboy', consider this: As of March this year, despite declining console sales, Nintendo's Wii U sold more in its first four months on sale than either the PS3 or Xbox 360. If the sales are considered "pitiful" I can only imagine how much Sony and Microsoft were getting lit up back when the PS3 and 360 were being sold new. Oh wait that didn't happen because ALL Nintendo news is spun negatively while Sony and Microsoft news is given as is. SMFH!!

It's probably closer to trying to sell bicycles where the wheels get worn and old then promising that new wheels will be released later.

Nintendo hit a snag after the holiday season. They just didn't have much to offer which affected console sales. If third parties are simply waiting for better sales, the latter part of 2013 should change their minds so we'll see if they stick to that line.

I like your enthusiasm, but I imagine the 7/10 books ratio analogy is probably a bit off.  Their projected sales up until April were 6-8 million units.  They sold 3.5 million units as of April.

The article I found on this stated the Xbox 360 & PS3 both sold under 3 million during the same time period following their launch, which makes it true that historically, the Wii U may not be doing poorly compared to other product launches.

But selling half of what they projected hurts their investors, which can't be good when it comes to the confidence they have in management.  Also, comparatively to the Wii, the Wii U IS selling poorly, and although it may be a bit unfair to compare to that, I'm sure Nintendo at least expected the "Wii" branding in the new console alone to provide the system with some cache with people.

Part of the perception issue with Wii U sales is because the system has never been short of demand. It has always been in ample supply. I believe this to be one of the arguments against supporting the console among a myriad of other sales data that is not helping the platform's support.
