Nintendo has confirmed on Twitter that it will show Wii U titles in a pre-E3 Nintendo Direct.

In a Nintendo Direct before E3, the new 3D Mario, Mario Kart, and Super Smash Bros. will be shown, along with other Wii U games.

This Nintendo Direct will mark the start of Nintendo's Electronic Entertainment Expo showing, which is notable since Nintendo is forgoing a traditional press conference.

No specific date was given other than before E3.

3D Mario
*Yawn*
Really Mario Saturated at the moment with 3D Land, NSMB 2, NSMBU, AND NSLU
Mario Kart *shrug*
Smash like to see it but we know its going to be at least a year.

Definitely hope one of the "other Wii U games" includes the unannounced smaller-scale Miyamoto project (might have been for 3DS, I forget if platform was specified).

Kart could carry the tradition of showcasing online capabilities, which is good, but it would be particularly interesting if the Sega crossover rumor is true and maybe even Sumo Digital worked on it.  Collaborations are a part of Nintendo's strategy going forward, as stated during the SMT X Fire Emblem reveal, so surely it's not impossible.  However, my only reservation is how short it's been since Sonic & All-Stars Racing: Transformed came out.  At the very least, though, I do expect this to be an example of a studio collaboration.

Update:  Since Iwata Asks segments are sure to come with E3, I'm looking forward to a Monolith Soft edition covering X.  Yes, Broodwars, you inspired me to add this.

Oh joy. More Mario. Because Lord knows we haven't seen enough of that franchise over the last year.  ::)

Well, we knew those games were coming, so "whatever." Smash Bros. won't be showing up for probably another year or two, but it'll be nice to see something more than a "Please be Excited For It."

Hopefully, Nintendo has more interesting games than those to show off. I'm going to be particularly interested in further details on "X".

Hopefully GTA V, Lords of Shadow 2, and Cod Ghosts are announced for the Wii U as well.

I don't doubt that CoD: Ghosts will be announced for Wii U. Putting their games on as many platforms as possible is just what Activision does.  But if you're waiting for a GTA V or Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 announcement after how badly the Wii U has sold, you're going to be waiting a very long time. It's just not going to happen unless there's some serious Nintendo money-hatting, which Nintendo is not known for.

Looking forward to seeing how these games are shaping up.

I'm not sure this is actually news.

By that, I mean this "Pre-E3" ND could be the day before the show starts, or even that morning as/before the media hands-on event. We already knew they would announced games via ND rather than a press conference. So I'm not sure what the new information is here.

Smash bros, Johnny?

azekeMay 19, 2013

Hyped to see sequel to my favourite games ever!

I unlocked Grandmaster Galaxy in SMG2 this weekend (find it quite hard to make myself to do the same in the first game due tediousness of the last half) and it's kicking my ass so far.

Love it, love it, love it.

If Nintendo is smart they will have already placed a blank check into Take Two's pocket to get GTA onto the Wii U.

MercurySteam already said they're not porting Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. Unless Konami got another team to port the game, you'll be sorely disappointed. I don't think I'd want a version not handled by MercurySteam.

Wasn't there a rumor not too long ago about Nintendo intentionally holding back marketing and announcements while they ironed out some of the issues? I guess that makes sense in a weird, backwards kind of way. Should they market Wii U with so little to show currently? I can see why Nintendo would be hesistant right now. Before the mid-April update, Wii U updated out of the box and still ran annoyingly slow. Not the best first impression. A summer update is supposed to improve things further. These shouldn't have been problems, but since they are, holding off until they aren't isn't the worst strategy.

And if Nintendo did score some major titles, it may be possible that they asked publishers to wait until E3 to announce a Wii U version when those games make their real debuts. That way, Nintendo rides the positive buzz out of E3 for a summer push that starts with Pikmin 3 followed by a number of first and third party titles for the rest of the year. Wii U would have a pretty good second half of the year with Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, Wind Waker HD, 3D Mario, Grand Theft Auto 5, Call of Duty Ghost, and Mario Kart U among others like Batman and Assassin's Creed IV.

That would be a cool move and Rockstar is generally pretty platform agnostic, but really how much of an impact would that really make?

Apart from amorphous "mindshare" which apparently for many here matter so much more than actual games that they will actually play.

StogiMay 20, 2013

It's a shame GTA won't make it since it lends itself perfectly to the GamePad. After all, you are meant to play three players simultaneously. Why not be able to look at what each one is doing simultaneously?

ONM reported a few weeks ago that COD: G would come to Wii U. Polygon also confirms it will come to Wii U (http://www.polygon.com/2013/5/21/4352620/call-of-duty-ghosts-behind-the-scenes-video-details-development-of)
