Talkback

The last 3 Nintendo Dirests have been too good. I just can't imagine this one being anything but an update on what we know about. The Nintendo UK twitter mentioned another ND right before E3, that's the one with new stuff.

I'm not going to get hyped for this one. I said that the last two times and was blown away twice.

CericMay 16, 2013

We just wanted to remind you of the Wii U summer update.  I have no games to announce.

MiyamotoMay 16, 2013

Pimin 3 and what else? Interesting...

AdrockMay 16, 2013

Wind Waker HD and The Wonderful 101.

DamabaMay 16, 2013

Here we gooooo!

Can't wait to here more about Pikmin!

reginMay 16, 2013

I don't care if this is nothing but 30 minutes of them explaining a mini-game in WiiU Party. I'm just glad they're finally talking about WiiU again.

That's a ND reveal closer to E3, 35 years from now.

I'm actually pretty excited for for Wii Party U.

Also hopefully some more details on Platinum titles.

pokepal148Spencer Johnson, Contributing WriterMay 16, 2013

i doubt much will get revealed,

So says every cynic RIGHT BEFORE the next Nintendo Direct.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, make like Babe Ruth, and actually raise the bar:

The Warmup:

Wonderful 101
Pikmin 4
Luigi U DLC

Leading to the climax, about to have mind blown:

Yoshi Yarn gameplay
Windwaker remake gameplay
Wii U Fit

MIND=BLOWN:

Xenoblade 2 (or whatever this is)
Bayonetta 2
Metroid Prime 4 (or whatever Retro has been working on since DKCR)
The New Mario game from Tokyo EAD

That last section of games isn't going to be at this Nintendo Direct, they'll save it for the one around E3.

ShyGuyMay 16, 2013

Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 are delayed till 2014. Please Understand.

I believe a significant part of the reason for this Nintendo Direct is to avoid the embarrassment of talking about Pikmin/Wonderful 101/etc. at a second E3. They can show them off here, then stick them in a corner at the show with one demo unit and never mention them outside the press kit.

azekeMay 16, 2013

Truth be told they didn't talked about Wonderful 101 on last E3...

Fatty The HuttMay 16, 2013

immediate Wii U price drop to $199
and a handjob for each "ambassador" from Iwata
"please understand"

They did if you were watching on Spike TV. For whatever dumb reason, Nintendo thought it would be a good idea at a show where they were light on exclusives to not mention an exclusive new IP from a popular third party developer in their primary showcase, instead spending a lot of their time on the least interesting part of Nintendo Land.

I wouldn't want a handjob from Iwata.  Surely there is some female Nintendo employee that could do that.

I think J.P.'s got the right idea.  I figure Nintendo will save something for E3 itself so this will probably be more on what we already know.  It will probably focus more on the summer for the Wii U, as E3 would be stuff beyond that.  Pikmin 3 should be coming out this summer so the Direct is probably about the Wii U content for this summer.

199 is too low for the deluxe model...
i expect 250

Fatty The HuttMay 16, 2013

pokepal, I was kidding
no price drop
I agree Pikmin and Wonderful 101 will be featured so as not to have to again spend time on them at E3

SonofMrPeanutMay 16, 2013

I'm at least expecting them to tell us more about the Summer Update.  Other than that, no expectations going in.  A surprise eShop title could be nice, since those seem to come out of nowhere.

They'll be talking about Wonderful 101 tomorrow morning. :)

ShyGuyMay 16, 2013

Or Kamiya is trolling again...

SarailMay 16, 2013

Haha. He is known to do that, isn't he? Well, W101 has got to be coming sometime this summer, so I'm expecting it as a part of tomorrow morning's event.

I know right? How dare they lie to us like that?

They obviously outsourced that to TOSE.

Thanks Iwata!

As for this Direct, I'm not expecting much. Nintendo's going to save their big Wii U announcements for their actual E3 Nintendo Direct, and they already blew their load on the 3DS. All I'm expecting tomorrow is a bunch of talk about minor Wii U games I don't care about, more MegaTen 4 coverage, and if I'm lucky maybe they'll announce a date for Earthbound.  There's really no reason to expect more than that, and as I'm going to be working during the Direct (and in mostly a media blackout till early evening) I don't see a point to getting hyped for it.

something something other other M

probably something like Wonderful 101 that has already been announced along with some new indie games, a pikmin announcement...

RarityGamerMay 17, 2013

Seemed pointless to me. They could of at least hinted towards something good coming for E3.

azekeMay 17, 2013

NeoGAF broke during this Direct.

That only usually happens during E3s.

Too bad my internet was also acting up and i missed most of it...

shingi_70May 17, 2013

It was decent but easily could have been apart of E3. I think the sonic bomb was nice but should have been saved for E3. Will pick up the oracle games before June 20th.

I wonder what the deal was to get Sonic Lost World to be a Wii U exclusive after all the rumors pointed it to be on every platform known to man.

Sega saw sales of Sonic Generations and compared them to Sonic Colours.

This direct was a waste of everyone's time and if it suppose to be a glimpse into the Wii U Future.  It has no future.

Yes, it was horrible.

They said this Direct they will solve world peace problems but instead they killed my dog with an iron.

Thanks Iwata!

You'll be singing a different tune come E3. I think most people figured all we would get were the summer dates for W101, Pikmin, Wario and Luigi. Seems fine to me.

CericMay 17, 2013

My problem is that Almost all of that we known about since launch and had just been delayed or could have already be played on a Nintendo system.  The sole real exception was Sonic: Lost World but if its not in the Sonic Storybook series I could really care less.

I sure hope not.  Because just think at how bad E3 would need to be to make this an ok Nintendo Direct.

We knew all of the details unveiled in this Direct except for the details that we didn't know.

Thanks Iwata!

Now that Bill Trinen got promoted, Tiger Woods is running the Treehouse.

Ian SaneMay 17, 2013

So I got my time zone mixed up and thought this was at 10am PST but the front news on NWR was such minor stuff I didn't pick up on the fact that the Direct had already happened.  That's when you know it was lame.

We did get a new game announced but it's Sonic and this isn't the 90's so I don't give a fuck.  Even with Nintendo's involvement I pretty much assume that any Sonic game will be a sucky waste of time.  I didn't even make the association of tying it with the Direct because I'm just used to ignoring Sonic games and figured that as long as Sega continued to churn that shit out it would end up on Nintendo consoles.

"Sonic?  Yeah, whatever.  Where's the news from the Direct? ...oh, that was it.  Huh."
