is the browser still faster then Internet Explorer 10?

FjurbanskiApril 25, 2013

Fully updated and installed. It is noticeably faster. I'm pleased.

Something I noticed immediately after booting up New Super Mario Bros. U (downloaded) is that the Nintendo Land disc inside stopped spinning, making the console a lot more quiet.

Done installing, 45 minutes in total.

what about Panorama View

Yes! Thank you Nintendo!

Took ages to download and install, but getting in and out of games/apps is significantly faster now. I wonder if the next update will feel like diminishing returns.

I'm also going to be using the Boot-to-Wii-Mode a lot, at least this year. The system-level Screen Size adjustment is absolutely essential. I set mine immediately, though of course the perfect setting for my TV falls right in the middle of two notches on the bar. I'll be curious to see if this overrides or conflicts with the screen size options that were already built into Miiverse, eShop, etc. Will I be able to see the entire UI in The Last Story AND the correct margins on the Wii U menu screen, without adjusting my TV itself?

My Wii U now takes 25 secondes to go from the Plaza to the Kirby loading screen. The hell.

Holy speed improvement.

And yes, thank god for the screen size adjustment. I *hated* having cut off borders

Same, pretty much everything sits there on the icon screen for awhile before going to the splash screen. It used to be almost instant.. I think I'll do a video maybe..

Do you guys have TVs that don't allow you to turn off overscan?  That is a pain.  I like overscan off in general, but particularly for PC use.  Overscan slightly zooms the entire screen, so it can also add a bit of blur to text.

I apologize if this has nothing to do with overscan.  I don't yet have a Wii U, so I'm just assuming that would be the issue.

@Traveller

Nevermind, my Wii U apparently fixed itself overnight.

Are you on dial-up?  ;)

My download and install combined was only about 40 minutes.

So when do we get VC games in. The eShop?

Yes that was the issue.  Nintendo didn't leave any "safe zone" like every other electronics maker anywhere ever has done, so if you have a tv that can't turn overscan off you were screwed.  Thankfully it's fixed now. I've barely used my Wii U since it came out because of that.

I'm hoping they pre-install all these updates on new Wii U systems, it would be a real pain if this one were tacked on to the already huge day-one update...

Thanks for clearing that up!  The ability to turn off overscan is always the first thing I check on TVs I am reviewing or might purchase, and thankfully the majority allow it or have it off by default.  Still, a big oversight by Nintendo.

Lucky!

Anyone know how big the update was? I'd guess somewhere in the hundreds of megabytes.

That's pretty small.  The last update I received for my iPhone was 800 MB.

My download and install combined was only about 40 minutes.

Mine was like an hour and half with two dropped connections to Nintendo servers, but I finally got it updated at 4 in the morning :'(

I believe they said the application-specific options would be removed.

Also, I didn't see it listed, but I bought a game that had an update and it queued both up in the downloads so that I wouldn't have to run the game to get the update, which was welcome. Unfortunately, the background installation feature makes games jittery on occasion... like the GamePad freezes for a split second. Not sure if has something to do with the external HD or not.
