The sequel to Nano Assault will be available to download on day one.

Nano Assault Neo has been revealed for the Wii U eShop. President of Nintendo Europe Satoru Shibata pulled back the curtain on the new shooter from Shin'en Multimedia coming exclusively to Wii U, in the recent European Nintendo Direct.

Much like its predecessor Nano Assault, released last year as a Nintendo 3DS retail title, Nano Assault Neo is a shoot 'em up in which you play a microscopic ship that fights deadly viruses. Stages take place either around a spherical object viewed from a bird's-eye perspective, or a more traditional level with the camera locked behind the ship.

The game will be controlled in typical twin-stick fashion, with the analog sticks on the Wii U GamePad used for moving and aiming respectively. While the game is displayed on the TV, the GamePad allows the player to dynamically change the mode of their ship using the touch screen, although it can also be played entirely on the GamePad alone.

Nano Assault Neo will be downloadable from the Wii U eShop when the console launches in Europe on November 30th.

I think I read on Kotaku that they weren't sure if it was a sequel or an HD remake, but judging from the little bits of they game they showed on the sizzle reel, looks like a different game.  I didn't recognize any of the levels or enemies shown.

This has me hyped; the Nano series is hard to find.

I was just playing Nano Assault last night! Good game.

Loved Nano Assault while it lasted. Can't wait to try this new HD one. It's looking beautiful from what I can see.

It's a shame it took more than a year for this game to be released in it's home region.

Well, at least we're getting superior version both in terms of looks AND controls (i freaking love me some twin stick shoot'em'ups).

Loved Nano Assault!

I would be interested in this game if it were a true sequel.  Not some HD remake.

Also, why not 3DS!? The 3D in that game was SOOOO GOOD!

Any chance it could also come to the 3DS eShop??

There's already some kind of a new Nano Assault game coming to the 3DS eShop, isn't there?

I think that wires might have been crossed and they were working on a Nano Assault eShop game, and we all assumed 3DS.

But didn't it specifically mention Circle Pad Pro support?

EDIT: Yep, original source tweet from Shi'en specifically says 3DS.

Yes. So, yea, I got my wires crossed.

Nano Assault EX is coming to NA and Europe later this year with CPP support and new modes added to the original Nano Assault.

I'm thinking/hoping Neo is a new game.

What does it say about the industry when we have to "think/hope" that a game with "neo" in the title is something "new"? =P

Because I haven't heard it confirmed. Too many 3DS-to-Wii U eShop ports make me nervous. "Neo" could refer to new graphics and modes for all I know. You might be right (I hope you are), but it is not a guaranteed assumption.

Anyway, we'll find out soon enough. I'm glad we're getting more Nano Assault. I think I might label that the best 3DS third-party game this side of Theatrhythm.

@Neal

Oh no, I wasn't sharing any theories at all.  Just making a (perhaps humorous) observation. Nothing more.

I am also super excited for more Nano Assault.  I absolutely loved the game.  It was even the subject of one of my articles on Negative World.  .  I must have played through the whole thing at least 4 times!

I own and like the original Nano Assault, but to me it's something that I'd much rather have digitally, so I'm really looking forward to both upcoming eShop releases.
