Wii U Release Date for Aliens: Colonial Marines 'Will Be Revealed at a Later Time'

The other versions are all delayed until February 2013.

Sega was coy about the Wii U release date of Aliens: Colonial Marines in a press release that announced a February 12, 2013 release date for other platforms.

"A release date for the announced Wii U version will be revealed at a later time," read the official release.

This could mean a few things. First, it could be coming out a little after the other versions, or possibly at the same time. Sega and Gearbox Software might have their hands tied until the Wii U gets re-unveiled at E3 2012.

There is also the off-chance that Aliens: Colonial Marines could be coming out on Wii U this year, before the other versions. We do know that Gearbox has been working with Wii U development kits since before E3 2011. Gearbox's Randy Pitchford has also gone on record saying that he expects the Wii U version to be the most graphically impressive console version of the game.

"The Wii U is a next generation system. It hasn't even come out yet and we've had our 360s and PS3s for a while now so it's natural that it's a very powerful system. Now, it's up to Nintendo to talk about their system and they haven't revealed all of their details yet, but so far we're thrilled with it," Pitchford said in a recent interview with GameSpot. "It's pretty clear to us that the best-looking console version of Aliens: Colonial Marines is going to be on the Wii U."

Pitchford also discussed the potential of the Wii U controller as a motion tracker, and how the controller's screen could be useful as a scoreboard during multiplayer.

See below for a new trailer of the game.

I'm kinda banking on it being announced as a launch title for Wii U - giving Nintendo a nice advantage. Whether that will actually move the system with the "hardcore" is anyone's guess.

I wouldn't have given it a mention in the story if I didn't think it was a possibility. It's just, judging from Pitchford's exuberance over the game on the system (an exuberance that dates back to E3 2011), I could see a timed Wii U exclusive being a thing.

I've said it before on Twitter and it's only becoming more true now: 2012 is really starting to look like a crappy year for games. Most of the games I was interested in this year are being pushed back to 2013 because publishers are running scared of Black Ops 2, Assassin's Creed 3, and probably GTA5 as well.  Plus, now these delayed titles will just slaughter each other in Q1 2013, so what's the point?  I'm starting to get the feeling that the Wii U's not releasing until 2013 as well considering all these delays for titles that would potentially be launch titles for the thing and Nintendo's reluctance to discuss release dates and prices at E3.

At least when it comes to systems I currently own I still have Sly 4 in the Fall...for now.

Darksiders 2?

Darksiders 2?

Meh.  I wasn't a huge fan of Darksiders 1, and its sequel seems geared towards people who love loot-collecting (which I am not).

There are still a handful of titles this year I'm looking forward to (AC3, RE6, Sly 4, Last Story, and some Vita titles), but I was really looking forward to Bioshock Infinite and the new Tomb Raider.  As an Alien/Aliens fan, Colonial Marines looked promising, too.  I get the feeling, though, that the wave of delays into 2013 isn't over yet.

Nintendo can survive off their own games at launch so they have no need to delay it for certain third party games.  Plus Nintendo didn't announce the price and release date for the Wii until September 2006, 2 months before the system was released so a lack of release data doesn't mean anything either.

Wii U is coming out this holiday season. Nintendo cannot afford to delay the launch past 2012. Their investors would murder the entire company. Also, Iwata would probably be fired.

I do echo the sadness of all these delays. Most of the games that were due out in Q4 that I was interested in (this, Bioshock Infinite, South Park) are all getting pushed back. I am also somewhat wary of the Wii U launch line-up now.

If the investors had the power to do that they would have already done it after E3 last year.

When you have something as successful as the Wii and DS, you build up some good will. I'd assume that good will is a lot lower now than it was last year.

Ah yes, the same investors who rushed the release of the 3DS and then demanded that Nintendo release games on iOS. Geniuses.

I'm not saying they're right. Just saying they'd want some heads to roll if Nintendo isn't profitable this year.

There's three reasons why Nintendo will be profitable this year.

Have we reached the point where we can christen this game Aliens: Colonial Marines Forever?

YmeegodMay 22, 2012

It most likely has to do with their priorities, Border Lands 2 is the bigger seller for them so it's eating more of their staff time and effort.

Expect to see the WII U version 2013 as well.
"delays into 2013 isn't over yet" Yeah, my 2012 wishlist is now becoming my 2013 wishlist :( .  But since I'm still playing 2011 games I shouldn't complain to much.

No.  We did reach that point with Skyward Sword Forever.
