Wario's brush with immortality comes to 3DS - in color too!

The first sequel to Wario's pioneering adventure on the Game Boy is set for release on the Japanese Virtual Console service on April 4th. The 3DS version is a port of the Game Boy Color re-release, which was the only version released in Japan.

The game is a direct sequel to Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, in which buxom pirate Captain Syrup returns for revenge, stealing all the treasure from Wario's castle. Wario must quest through branching paths to reclaim his ill-gotten gains, while making use of various enemy-inflicted ailments that transform him into different forms such as a zombie, a balloon or a flaming mass.

This news is sure be like salt on the wound to US Wario fans, who have yet to see the original Wario Land arrive on Virtual Console at all despite its availability in all other regions.

Talkback

Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 is memorable because of its subtitle.
Wario Land II is memorable because I've never heard it discussed at length.
Wario Land 3 is memorable because it's among the last great GBC games.
Wario Land 4 is memorable because it's the only one on GBA.
Wario Land: Shake It! is memorable because it's the one on Wii.

And I'm pretty sure if North America doesn't get the first game tomorrow, there will be little hope until mid-April...  :(

Sorry for the double post.  :P

Wario Land II is great. GREAT.

One of the greatest platformers ever made.  A must download for anyone who hasn't played it.

Yup, Wario Land II blew my G-damned mind when I first played it. It has the most rewarding and immersive secret exit structure in possibly any 2D platformer. If you stay asleep in the first level for a minute, at the very start of the game, you get carried to a completely new map path and ending. That kind of stuff.

Wario Land III is nearly as good, as has an insanely difficult final level that unlocks after collecting everything that might be the hardest feat I've ever accomplished in a game. Wario Land IV kind of sucks comparatively; the stage escape mechanic stinks, though Shake It! managed to redeem the structure somewhat by being otherwise awesome.

The eShop game buying fool inside of me is definitely not going to miss out on this game! I should probably beat the first one, though...and the ton of other GB VC games I haven't gotten through yet, too!

Wario Land II is definitely one of the best Game Boy games, and I'm glad they are releasing the GBC version onto the shop. It's one of those games that shows challenge isn't necessary for a fun game.
