You will have to wait a bit longer before you can record 3D videos.

Nintendo announced a delay for the Nintendo 3DS update, which was originally planned for tomorrow. This was indicated through a notice on their official 3DS website.

The update will add new functionality and games to the StreetPass Mii Plaza as well as the ability to record and playback 3D video content. It will also allow players to finally transfer their data between units of the handheld.

According to the company, a new date is yet to be decided, although it is promised that gamers won't have to wait longer than December 8.

If I remember rightly, the debut of the eShop was also delayed. I wonder what keeps causing them to push back their major online features.

The North American 3DS site has also updated if you don't want to use a Google Translate link:

Eh, who cares. It's not a game, so I won't really use it.

Sounds like they have run into a show stopping bug. Better to delay than risk bricking untold number of machines.

People who are buying Mario Kart 7 will probably care - if only for the updates to the Friend Roster that make it easier to find and join people who are already playing online.

I'm not in a rush for the update, but it does sound like some good features and fixes are being added. Glad to see this type of on-going support for the system.

When I read any articles related to the update it kept say "later this month" but I didn't think they were gonna wait this late in the month. I guess I'm just gonna have to wait a few more days than what was originally planned. And it's good to finally know a more narrowed date this time.

my guess is they are rethinking SWAPNOTE aka Mail program.

I think it'll be part of firmware NOT part an app from e-shop like originally thought. Just a guess but I think it's the most logical thing. Having it as an app NOT firmware would make it less used and not as worth while. The firmware was 'november' and this app was supposed to be ' December' so why not just combine them.

I base this from the quote:

Transfer of downloaded software and data between Nintendo 3DS systems

I think this firmware update will be great and add allot so I'm excited. I want to take 3d video and want an update to Street Pass/ Find Mii.

Is anyone else noticing better battery life after the Mario 3D Land system update?  Is it just me?  Am I crazy?

famicomplicatedJames Charlton, Associate Editor (Japan)November 29, 2011

@Tanooki - I haven't noticed that.

Also I wonder if this new update will just be on Mario Kart7 game cards anyway like the mini-update was on Mario 3D Land?
We'll soon find out!

Remember the drop-in game feature will be functional even without the big update, it's just all the other stuff that wont be.

nhainesNovember 29, 2011

I agree.  The friends list update came with Super Mario 3D Land and will doubtlessly be included with Mario Kart 7 as well--that's not an issue.  While I'm bummed that the system update is being delayed, I'm glad that Nintendo is willing to take the time necessary to polish their releases.  That seems in such short quantity these days.

Looks like you'll be able to transfer software from your old 3DS to your new 3DS.  I wonder if they're going to ensure that works with the Ambassador titles.  (Guess what ensured that I will never have a Zelda-themed 3DS, no matter how shiny?)

Dang, no 3D video of the drunk secretary taking off her cloths at the christmas party it seems.
Anyone ask about the Embassadors disappearing GBA games we were promissed?

They said we would get the Ambassadors GBA games by the end of the year, they still have 32 more days. Don't worry.

BlackNMild2k1November 29, 2011

I'm gonna guess that they will fulfill their obligations as Xmas presents.

We may get some before then, but the final batch will complete Xmas morning.

I was pegging the Ambassador games for the update, but I wouldn't be surprised if we get them the last week of the year.

The mini-update undoubtedly will, the full-update won't. If it's still not ready now, it definitely wasn't ready when the final version of the ROM was submitted for mass production. Remember, the game is just a few days away from release, so the first batch has already been manufactured.

Besides, this update is probably too big to put on the same game card as a game. The only thing they're gonna include with a game is going to be the bare essentials like the 'friend updates' and the anti-piracy measures.

First the eShop update, now this one... Judging by Nintendo's recent track record, we won't be getting the GBA games until the first week of January.

TJ SpykeNovember 29, 2011

Except that they were actually EARLY with the NES games in the program, so I see no reason to think they won't be on time with the GBA ones.

I called February.

NintendoFanboyNovember 29, 2011

so we have people with Mini updates, and people like myself who are not getting 3D
land anytime soon, walking the streets together, hope there r no conflicts.
Last week of Dec you say? Looking at the E shop before E3, i'm guessing 12:59pm Dec 31
so they can say they fulfilled the promiss.
Oh well, im backing up my SD card before this update, thats for sure.

BlackNMild2k1November 29, 2011
