The addictive puzzler is making its way to Japan early next year.

Zoo Keeper 3D is coming to the Nintendo 3DS in Japan on January 26, 2012 and will retail for 3,990 yen.

The game will feature several modes including normal game mode, score attack, quest mode, and a download play option for single-cartridge multiplayer. Zoo Keeper 3D also features an online battle mode where users can compete head-to-head with others across the country. Users competing online will also have the ability to rate each others skill level.

The Zoo Keeper series started on the Game Boy Advance in 2003 in Japan, and eventually made its way to Europe and North America in 2005. Since the initial release, titles in the series have been released across multiple platforms including the Game Boy Advance, Playstation 2, Nintendo DS and iOS.

As of right now, there is no information about a release for Zoo Keeper 3D outside of Japan.

I actually really liked the DS one.  If this comes stateside I may get it.

I really see no reason why this is a cartridge release and not e-shop.

This. I'd probably buy it if it were on the eShop, but it is in no way worth the full $40, or even half that.

I'm with you guys on this one, too. I have no doubt that this is indeed a quality game, but does this really warrant a cart release? There's a market for these kind of games both in Japan and America, but releasing it at a standard retail price is not a way to appeal to more people.
