Square-Enix is expected to finally show Dragon Quest X.

Square-Enix is holding a press conference in Tokyo today, and according to their schedule, they will be officially announcing Dragon Quest X.

The Dragon Quest press conference broadcast, which will also cover the series' 25th anniversary, is streaming live on Ustream and Nico Nico Live. Andriasang has a live blog in English here.

Wii, online

Dragon Quest has quickly become my favorite RPG as of late and DQ X looks great. There were small things I really appreciate like taking an actual book from a shelf to read it. I think the online will really be cool since a lot of people played IX and it had limited, but fun multiplayer.
I fear that X will be released when the Wii is on it's death bed and won't do as well if it were released sooner. I also wished that IX was released when the 3DS was out because of Street Pass and better online support. I wonder if they'll port it over to The U or another system depending on when its released.

Sweet. Any other details that you can give us, MegaByte?

CalibanSeptember 05, 2011

They're talking about the Wii U and 3DS, but that's all I can understand lol.

A Wii U version with better graphics has been confirmed.  Well I guess we know what the flagship title for the Wii U's Japanese launch will now be.

BlackNMild2k1September 05, 2011

I called it first.

DQX just got TP'd

I know which version I'll be getting.

CalibanSeptember 05, 2011

It doesn't matter which version anyone gets, it's cross-platform.

BlackNMild2k1September 05, 2011

WiiU will be the #1 next gen platform next Xmas by a loooong shot (in Japan).

So if DQX is a WiiU LAUNCH title, then I bet Japan get the early post E3 launch while the rest of the world waits for a November WW launch. Japan will need every system available at launch. HYPE will be through the roof.

broodwarsSeptember 05, 2011

What a shock.  I just called this last night.  Square-Enix screwed around with this game for so long, there was absolutely no point in keeping the game on the Wii.

Luigi DudeSeptember 05, 2011

I'm calling it now, the Wii U version will be the only version that gets released outside of Japan.  Iwata is going to make sure NOA and NOE make DQX one of the the Wii U's big titles at launch that gets advertised heavily with the system in order to maximize Western sales. Because of this, they wont want the regular Wii version to take any attention from the Wii U version, and since Dragon Quest doesn't really have a huge current installment base on the Wii in the West like Zelda did on the Gamecube, The Wii version wont leave Japan.

BlackNMild2k1September 05, 2011

& that is perfectly fine with me, because I was only gonna get the Wii U version anyway.

Now can someone post a video or some pics or something. I still haven't even seen what it looks like yet.

TheFleeceSeptember 05, 2011

The U version will be the version I get unless I can't get one. I'm glad it's coming out for both. I heard something about using the 3DS in some way, but I'm not sure about specifics.

Interesting response

The stocks lost value?

Buy on the rumour, sell on the news. The "DQ as MMO" thing got rumored a few weeks back.

S-E went down and Nintendo went up right after the announcement.

I didn't notice Nintendo's stock value...

S-E's stock value should have risen with such an announcement, but it might indicate that their shareholders just aren't trusting their decisions. Heck, these shareholders might just be what's stopping S-E from actually expanding into something better as they slowly fade away.

Pessimism is fun and all, but in this case, I don't think that's going to happen. Unlike with the recent triple RPG group that NoA passed over, Dragon Quest is an established series, and it's one which Nintendo have been recently publishing in North America and seem to be trying to build a fanbase with. And the series has been finding reasonable success lately, so they will continue bringing the games over. Since the Wii and Wii U versions have sharing features, I imagine that will be advertised as some sort of selling point, so both versions will be brought over.
