The second game in Mega Man's X universe may be coming to Virtual Console soon.

A recent ESRB listing has confirmed that Mega Man X2 has been rated for the Virtual Console.

This marks as significant as the game featured a special kind of SNES chip, called the CX4 chip, which allowed the game to create special 3D wireframe effects. Virtual Console emulation of these chip titles, which include Star Fox, has proven to be troublesome.

Mega Man X was originally released for the Super NES in 1995, and continues the Mega Man X storyline.

It has been rated E for everyone for animated violence.

Talkback

I like MMX2 quite a bit more than the first one, because you start with the dash and later get an air dash. This is also great news for the possibility of getting other chipped SNES games, though each chip is different.

Hopefully this will ope the door for more SNES classics to appear on Virtual Console. I have always wanted Yoshi's Island and Turtles in Time in my collection, so the sooner they get here the better.

Kytim, Turtles in Time ain't coming to VC. No chip is stopping it. It's called "licensing" and "not worth anyone's time at this point."

I love the game to death, but the Wii VC is a barren wasteland, and Turtles in Time would require a bit of effort to get on the service. That effort would be between Ubisoft and Konami, and I doubt other company gives a crap.

I'm sure if the NES one had sold better, they would have been more open to releasing the other ones on the VC too.

What Neal said. At this point the Virtual Console is a joke. The Wii is on its last legs and not even Nintendo has bothered in trying to bring a lot of popular and requested games.

I'm a little surprised to see this game may be released on the VC, I didn't think they would bother with it because of that special chip. If I recall, the specific chip was used only in Mega Man X2 and Mega Man X3. Looks like there's a good chance we'll see X3 too since that would make emulating the chip more worthwhile.

I never played much of the 2nd or 3rd X games on the SNES.  To me, Capcom overcomplicated the series formula and made those games harder and more tedious to get through than they really needed to be, and that's before taking into account the labyrinthine depths the series would take with the overall story.  Part of the charm of the first X game is that it's a pretty simple game that you can just blast through with ease.

I'm glad to see the game maybe coming to the VC since just about everyone except Nintendo of Europe seems to be abandoning the Wii, but there are other games I'd much rather see on it than this one.

You're surprised that Capcom is releasing a game again? Really?

Capcom has emulated X2 so many times that it is second nature to them. There is a very good reason I own that game 3 ways.  X Collection is basically just an emulator with a pretty skin.

So what is it rated? Journalism people!

No, I just wasn't sure if it were possible since unlike other forms of emulation, the Wii VC tries to run 100% like the original.

Did you double-dip on the X Collection? Because that's the only rerelease that doesn't involve Japanese cell phones.

...I don't want to talk about it...

LOL, maybe you bought both the GCN and PS2 versions. Or, maybe a more shady means.
