A recent OFLC update reveals the developer for the upcoming remake.

Today, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D received a rating by the OFLC, and with it came the revelation that Grezzo, Co. Ltd. is developing the upcoming remake. Grezzo is the company behind the recent Japan-only WiiWare game Line Attack Heroes.

The game, which is slated for release in June, is rated ‘G’ by the rating board, which is a step down from the ‘PG’ rating that the original received. It is not known as to whether or not anything was removed for the game to receive this more family-friendly rating.

Maybe the blood from Ganon's mouth is removed for the G rating?

No, that wouldn't have mattered. That was already removed early on and only appeared in very early copies of the game, so that couldn't have been the reason. I find this pretty odd considering the updated graphics  should make it more worthy of a higher rating. It could just be that the standards have gotten less strict over the years.

They must have clothed the fairies.  It would be the only way... (off the top of my head)

Ahhh, I remember when Ganondorf's  blood was red.  Then it was green in the compilation for Gamecube.  Do you think it's completely gone now?

It just could very well be that our standards as a global society have changed since Ocarina of Time released, so what once was considered somewhat troublesome to the ratings board is now seen as incredibly minor.  Consider that since Ocarina of Time released, we've had stuff like God of War; Bulletstorm; Dante's Inferno; Doom 3; Splatterhouse; etc.  Our standards for what is considered "gory" or "explicit" is much higher now than it was in the 90s.  By comparison, what's a few pixelated clouds of blood being coughed up in one scene in an otherwise extremely tame game?

Is there an echo in here? Because that sounds an awful like what I already said...  But if that is the case, it's a little interesting that as recently as four years ago, unless I'm mistaken, it was still considered 'PG' worthy when it was re-released via the Wii Virtual Console.

I've seen a screenshot of the Great Fairy already-- she's just as scantly clad as ever, so that can't be it. Perhaps they're taking into account the reduced screen size, and considering the action to be less intense in smaller resolution-- but even taking that into account it still doesn't add up since you've got to figure the low resolution of the old N64 models couldn't possibly be considered more graphic than the new hi-res 3DS models no matter how small the scale.

I wonder if all those people crying about Nintendo wasting resources on remaking an old game will go away now.

Why?  They're still wasting resources putting any developer's talents towards porting over an over a decade-old N64 game, when they could perhaps be working on new games for the under-performing 3DS.  But wait, that wouldn't be easy and safe, and Nintendo loves doing things that way.  Maybe I could excuse this if they were really taking advantage of the 3DS' considerable power over the original DS and porting over a GameCube game like Wind Waker, but this is an N64 game.  We should seriously be beyond projects like this, especially since the DS could already handle production values like this (aside from the 3D aspect).

The wasting resources is less of concern to me (though it really does bugs me when someone like Retro is being wasted on it) than how Nintendo will typically use re-releases as a replacement for a new game.  It isn't usually like they just release it willy nilly in the release schedule as a compliment to the new titles.  They slot these things quite clearly in the gaps like it's supposed to "count" as a new release.  Like if I complain that they released nothing in the last three months they can point at some re-release "Yeah we did! See?!"

The best example is the GBA back in 2002.  Metroid Fusion was literally the only new first party release in the ENTIRE YEAR.  The rest of the year they shoved SNES ports in my face.  It isn't like Nintendo has some new 3DS Zelda coming out shortly after this port.  No.  They will likely re-release Majora's Mask first and OoT 3D will plop down right in the middle of a big gap in the release schedule as if this is a big new title instead of a re-release of a game that every Nintendo fan probably owns two copies of.

We never got a new Mario on the GBA and that's because suckers were content to buy the same old Mario games they already played a million times.  When Nintendo was going hog wild with NPC games on the Wii it was during a time where NOTHING ELSE was being released.  Nintendo uses these as a cheap easy way to avoid giving us new content.

It's not being released as a replacement for a new Zelda game - they've already said there's a new 3D Zelda game in the works for the 3DS.

As for wasting resources - minimal resources are being used to take an established developer and help bring them up to AAA-Title Nintendo standards.  That doesn't sound like a waste to me.  Could they have done the same thing with a new title?  Sure - but it would have taken a lot longer and a lot more resources.

Take an existing title, show them "The Nintendo Touch", teach them how to use it, then, let them try something that allows them to have a bit more freedom.

Not quite true. There was Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land (although that was a remake of a NES game, not a port though). And in Japan they release several new GBA games in 2002: Densetsu no Starfy, Custom Robo GX, Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi, Sakura Momoko no Ukiuki Carnival, Koro Koro Puzzle Happy Panechu!, Domo-Kun no Fushigi Terebi. So they were not resting on their laurels that year. And I have no problem with OOT 3D, they re-release games because they are usually good and people love buying them.

Oh, I wonder who is the user who seems to have a petty grudge against me? I haven't posted in like 3 weeks, but somehow I have gotten like 20 smites since my last visit.

If they remove the blood, I will be severely disappointed. I'll even be disappointed if it's green.
