Nintendo offers functionality fixes and a 3D video with the first Nintendo 3DS update.

Nintendo of Japan has issued the first 3DS firmware update. The update includes improved system stability, an update to Street Pass which extends the data received notification feature and improved network connectivity. Nintendo has also added a 3D video featuring the Super Mario Bros theme song as performed at Nintendo World 2011.

The video starts by showing a screen shot of the original Super Mario Bros. in 3D, and then transitions to the 3D music video, which was performed by studio musicians and Kojji Kondo. After the music finishes, another still shot from the original Super Mario Bros. appears and the video comes to an end. The run time of the video is a little over two minutes.

Okay, as soon as I got of work today, I saw that this update was available. I jumped all over it! Simply, it's awesome! Seeing the still shots of Mario bros. is a great teaser of what Nintendo could possibly do with 3D remakes if old school games. Great showcase peice. If anyone has any other questions about the video, feel free to ask. :-)

I wonder if this update will already be included in the 3DS firmware when they release the system here in a few weeks, or will they make us download it too? What exactly do you mean by it extending data received notification for StreetPass?

I think it means, the small notification light stays lit for longer.
