The game is finished but not expected for a release this year.

Details have emerged for the final installment of the Bit.Trip series, titled Bit.Trip FLUX. The game is complete and is likely to be released in early 2011, Gaijin Games programmer Chris Osborn told Destructoid. He also mentioned that the game is not meant to be Wii Zapper compatible, unlike the previous game in the series; it would be possible, but difficult to play using that control scheme.

Osborn added that he is currently working on more Bit.Trip RUNNER, though the specifics of the project are unknown. He stated, "It would be foolish for us to not revisit RUNNER at some point, as it's the most popular game in the series so far."

Talkback

Although Fate is disappointing, I'm still excited to see what these guys bring with the final game, and I'm ludicrously excited for more Runner.

I still don't understand the appeal of this series or retro-styled games in general, but that's probably because I was never all that into gaming until it became modernized.

For me, it's the way the games have you essentially creating music as you play the game.  I don't care much for the "retro gameplay" (seriously, games that have such a casual central concept should not be so frickin' difficult), but I do enjoy the music.

I only enjoyed the parts of Runner that were done by Anamanaguchi (sp?), the Bit Trip music otherwise is lame and inferior to what chiptunes can really do.

Debatable. I liked the work that Nullsleep did on Bit.Trip Void's music, although I agree it's not the best chiptune material out there. The highest quality chiptune stuff I've heard in a video game is the soundtrack for Art Style: Picopict, which was done by YMCK.

Anyway, this tenuously classifies as news. I don't know why Gaijin thinks the game's title is such a big deal that it gets an announcement without any additional information on what the game is.
My random guess for Bit.Trip Flux: an extremely fast-paced action adventure game.

I'd say the real news here is the talk about more Runner. I friggin love that game.

For serious, OneTwenty. Runner is incredible. I'd even consider it in the running for Game of the Year...at least for me.

If there is going to be another Bit.Trip.Runner game then Flux is actually not the final game in the series.

If I'm not mistaken, Gaijin Games did mention recently that they were looking into getting their hands on 3DS dev kits. Perhaps Bit.Trip RUNNER 3D is in the pipeline, rather than a continuation of the series on WiiWare.

I didn't really enjoy Runner much, it just wasn't fun to play.

Runner is one of the Bit.Trip games that doesn't rely on the unique properties of the Wii remote at all.  I expect to see Runner ported to PC and/or Live Arcade/PSN--probably with additional content.
