Level-5's soccer RPG series is being translated for release in Europe.

The first of Level-5's Inazuma Eleven games for Nintendo DS will be released in Europe under distribution by Nintendo. The release date is set for January 28.

Initial screenshots show that the game will keep its Japanese title, rather than using the translated name - Lightning Eleven. This is the first time the soccer RPG series, from the company that brought us Professor Layton, has been announced for a release outside of Japan.

The announcement of a Swedish release comes from Bergsala, who work as a distribution company for Nintendo in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and in some cases, Finland. Further information and screenshots have been posted on Nintendo Sweden's website. As it would be highly unusual for a game to be released in only these countries, it is expected that the game will be announced shortly for the rest of Europe.

I would have expected Rising Star (Fragile, Little King's Story, Contact, No More Heroes, ...) to be behind this, not Nintendo.

EDIT: According to Wikipedia Rising Star is a subsidiary of Bergsala. Maybe this'll go through RSG after all.

Good luck to it. There's not much room left in the football (soccer) videogame space, with FIFA dominating the market - even the well-established PES doesn't get much of a look in these days. I question the decision to leave the Japanese title, which is the sort of thing I would expect to see on the cover of a samurai/ninja game, but whatever.

Who will they aim to sell it to, that's the big question. Most of the audience gravitates to simulation football (soccer), although there's a small niche for the arcade-style gameplay. Where does Inazuma Eleven fit in?

It won't sell millions but then again people keep making FPSes despite CoD dominating everything.
