The sequel to the Wii-exclusive original is hitting Wii and DS in February.

THQ revealed a February 22, 2011 release date for de Blob 2 for Wii and DS.

The game, developed by Blue Tongue on Wii and HalfBrick on DS, continues the story of the lovable blob as he fights for the color revolution against the villainous Comrade Black. In the sequel, you will be able to jump with a button instead of a motion, which was an issue most gamers had with the first game in the series. It also adds co-op and more gameplay variety.

The DS version, which we covered during E3 2010, is a side-scrolling platformer in a similar vein as the recent portable Sonic the Hedgehog games.

The original game, released in 2008, was a Wii exclusive. There was a DS version planned, but it was never released.

After the wave of good previews that followed the announcement that it was coming to the HD platforms, I'm a lot more enthused for de Blob 2. It sounds like Blue Tongue are really trying hard to inject some much-needed variety into the gameplay.

Syfy Kids? As in the TV channel Syfy? What do they have to do with the game?

Also, why would Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 versions make you more excited? Maybe if you don't own a Wii.

There supposedly is going to be a de Blob cartoon on Syfy, and THQ and Syfy are partnering on the sequel.

You misunderstood me. I don't have a 360 or a PS3, so that wouldn't factor into my anticipation at all. What I meant was that after that announcement, a lot of websites posted previews from recent play sessions and talked about all the enhancements over the first de Blob. There were also a couple of interviews with the project director, who was refreshingly honest and explained how they were evolving the gameplay over the course of the game. All that applies to the Wii version as well, obviously.
