The previously announced Dead or Alive game for the 3DS receives a new title.

This week's issue of Famitsu has new information regarding Dead or Alive 3DS, which now has a new name: Dead or Alive Dimensions.

In addition to this new title, the article confirms several features, including the return of classic characters such as Kasumi, Ayane, and Hayate. It also marks the return of Raidou, a character first seen in the original Dead or Alive title for the Sega Saturn, as well as Ayane's father and Kasumi and Hayate's father. The article also notes that this is the first new Dead or Alive title since 2005's Dead or Alive 4 for the Xbox 360, being developed once more by Team Ninja and directed and produced by Yousuke Hayashi.

Two stages are also detailed. First is “The Deep Mountains”. Its main obstacle are gates that can fall on the fighters and cause damage. The second stage is Kyoto, a peaceful stage featuring cherry blossom petals.

According to Famitsu, Dead or Alive Dimensions is 20% completed and has yet to receive a release date in any region.

Special thanks to Japan correspondent Matthew S. Walker for the translation!

It'll be a boring mindless masher but look nice. DoA is pretty much a launch title franchise, capitalizing on the lack of anything better at the time of its release.

See, I assumed that this was going to be an upscaled port of DoA2: Hardcore or one of the refurbished Xbox games. It's a brand new core entry? That's pretty cool.

Don't forget the counters that take away large chunks of the life bar which has players afraid to attack. That's one other complaint I've heard about the series.

"Mindless masher" is a great description, given its potential for use as a double entendre.

Serious question: do people play this game because they feel it has solid game mechanics?

I doubt it, but I heard a rumor that if you shake the 3DS, boob physics do their thing ;)

I think DoA2 and 3 have solid fighting mechanics. The series was one of the first to emphasize the importance of paries and counters, and that emphasis has increased in every game. I haven't played DoA4, but my favorite game in the series is DoA2, which has a nice balance between the counters and the full-on fighting.

Cheap-ass bosses, though.

DOA 2 was solid, along with 4 as well (when they brought back the controls)

It more fun than that tekken garbage..

It's no surprise to see a Dead or Alive 3DS game, thought I think Dead or Alive's "dimensions" were revealed a long time ago.  :P: :

3D boobies and you can touch them and giggle them. AWESOME and 3D boobies will be so close you can almost motorboat them !!!!

Pretty much the only reason why I'd even consider getting this game. That & the fact that the 3DS Super Street Fighter 4 probably won't be a launch title.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I really enjoy the Dead or Alive series. Yes, I admit that I took notice of it because of the girls, but the fighting is rather solid and very fun. I played the hell out of Dead or Alive 2 on the Dreamcast, then played it even more on the PS2 and AGAIN on the Xbox re-release. Dead or Alive 3 and 4 were also pretty good (though 4 was significantly harder than the previous games). So naturally, I am looking forward to the 3DS game, jiggling boobies be damned.

I think the counters just turn it into rock paper scissors, especially since you have to input them so far in advance you don't even know if the opponent is going to attack.

DOA boob physics in 3D: the cause of all the hype.  :P:
